North Korea fired a ballistic missile early Wednesday local time, according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.
CNN confirmed the launch with the South Korean military leaders who said it was still flying.
"North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile early this morning from Pyongsong, South Pyongan, to the east direction. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff is analyzing more details of the missile with the US side," said an official at South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.
US defense and intelligence officials had been growing increasingly puzzled as to why North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had not tested a ballistic missile in nearly two months. Ref. CNN.
North Korea claims to have successfully tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile, topped with a "Super-large heavy warhead," which is capable of striking the US mainland.
The country's state media made the announcement Wednesday, hours after leader Kim Jong Un ordered the 3 a.m. Launch of the Hwasong-15 missile, which reached the highest altitude ever recorded by a North Korean missile.
State news agency KCNA called the missile "The most powerful ICBM" and said it "Meets the goal of the completion of the rocket weaponry system development set by the DPRK," or the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Ref. CNN.
Too bad the world governments can’t surround this guy with Iron Beam style lasers and just shoot any missile he fires. Take away his toys, and maybe he’ll start to play nice.
No he will never play nice that is just not in his nature. He now has the range to hit the US mainland and I doubt it will be very long before he does attempt a real attack somewhere. Just where remains to be seen.
Yeah if he launches a missile that looks like it is going towards the mainland of the USA or any of our Allies then that could cause it to be shot down and start hostilities as we would have no way of proving that it is or is not armed.
I heard somewhere that one of NK's missiles did not go to its intended target and ended up in a populated area! If it was armed could you know what we would be talking about now.
We break from North Korea Missiles to share scoop from the journals of some good thinker:
