Today was a strange day. I had to recover my health after yesterdays battles, during the patrol of Llanfair.
I was unable to do that rapidly, as I didn't have the funds to buy a lot of healing, or spend large sums at the physician's, so I spent the day doing useful things that will be of future benefit. I took part in tavern competitions across three locations and was very pleased with my success at Angelsey where I was successful in Nine men's Morris, not something I am actually very good at.
I have trained hard as always, and am now a Fighter 2 after my visit to the guild hall in Angelsey. I also trained in the Body guild in town, and feel I am very proficient in all of the physical skills I need.
However on a less positive note I am starting to worry about the passage of time. Time seems to be passing by rather rapidly, and I have a fear that I will not be able to complete many of the things I wish to accomplish. I think I may need to speed up my progress, but that has associated risks attached.
I think I need to take a few more risks, given my fairly good combat skills, but comparing my abilities to some potential enemies that I have researched in the library concerns me. Nonetheless, I am really glad I have maximised my learning in Know Enemies. I feel that was a really good decision on my part, albeit it has taken time to achieve.
I have become more pious since I am now donating increasing sums of gold regularly to my deity, hoping that in the long run this will be of benefit to both me, and the god Kair.
I feel that I am on the right track in many respects, but just worry that I am not progressing at the speed required by the task that I have set myself. To become the Ruler of Kings I believe I must do more of what I have been doing already, but most likely somewhat faster, and more effectively, than I've been doing it so far. Tomorrow I intend to try to up my game.I hope this is a decision I will not later regret.
Worship of Kair
Oh Kair may nothing deflect me from pursuing your glory today. Guide me, that I choose only your way in order that every step will lead me closer to glorifying your name. Help me walk by your creed and spread the gospel of good.
Help me to keep my head clear, my heart pure, and my intentions honourable. Protect me from the deceivers sent by the chancellor to corrupt me. Spare me from having careless thoughts, words, and actions. Keep me focused on promoting your glory and prevent me from being distracted.
Help me to embrace every opportunity to guide others to see the wisdom of your teachings.
Be at my side that when I make errors or choose the wrong path. May your faith always redirect me in the way of goodness.
For oh Kair I only desire to spread your word, enhance your glory and walk in the shadow of your godliness as an example to all those that I meet and see throughout the day.
Renting a room at the Tavern
I must say that renting a room at a tavern is a bit of a lottery really. You can size up the tavern from outside before you go in. You can check out the facilities downstairs in the bar. You can drink the ale and tell if it's quality. You can think about ordering a meal there if you so desire. If you are a bit dubious about what that food might look and taste like, you can always watch the other diners reactions before you order yours.
When you rent a room in a tavern. You are told the price per night up front, and then taken to see it. You don't get much choice about what you get. It's normally a case of "Here it is, take it or leave it". Usually you can't leave it, unless you want to sleep on the streets, because the reason you rented the room in the first place is to avoid having to do just that.
So you go in your rented room. You look around. You're going to see a bed. You have no idea if it's hard, soft, bug ridden or dirty. You might get a bowl and a jug to wash yourself in and you might get a gazunder to urinate in, but that's usually it.
The room might have a lock and key, but even if it has, you don't know who else also has a key, so there's no security anyway, so why worry about it.
The window is usually a draughty wooden shutter that rattles with the wind, never shuts properly, and fails to block out all the moonlight.
You seldom get a rug on the floor, so you walk across timber floorboards, risk splinters in your feet and losing your belongings that fall between the slats.
Sometimes, despite all this, you'll get a good nights sleep, but generally only after you retire to your room having drunk extensively all evening in the tavern below. You are then able to collapse in a unconcscious stupor in this wonderful accommodation that you have paid some extortionate price for.
Today, my encounter with a Wolf Pack ended with me slaying the Wolf Pack.
Today, my encounter with a Marauder Leader ended with me slaying the Marauder Leader.
T'was the first time I encountered a Giant Wolf. I live to tell about it because I won that battle.
I, Garath, have gained enough experience that I am considered to be Level 6 among my fellow men.

Wow what a day!
Suddenly and almost without any prior warning, I have started to make great progress towards becoming the Ruler of Kings, and at a prodigious rate of knots.
I began embarking on a campaign of regular patrols led by a military captain around the dark lands that surround Llanfair. These forays were with the accompaniment of other soldiers from the local regular militia. During these patrols we met a Ranger named Ronin who is an adviser to the chancellor.
Also during the patrols we were attacked on many occasions, most notably after a plot sewn by a young girl who pretended to be in distress. This child was in reality in cahoots with a wolf pack, and served a giant wolf as her master. However I fought the giant wolf and killed it. I also killed no end of marauders, bears, and dark elves, including their captain as well as other creatures.
Not once did I come near death, so well prepared was I with the necessary potions.
I will continue to participate in these patrols in the future. I plan to continue them for a while.
I have studied Magick now, as I need to become proficient in the art in order to help the Dragon Clan that I have joined. The clan needs me to have a knowledge of chemistry and that requires Magick in abundance. I am working on progressing that matter at present.
In all this progress I have never lost sight of my dedication to Kair. At every step of the way I know he was by my side, guiding me, and protecting me. For that I will be eternally grateful.
