Obama Loses to Potential 2012 Candidates Huckabee, Romney; Beats Palin

With a pro-life landslide in the 2010 midterm congressional elections, it's now not too early to begin looking ahead to the next election battle: defeating pro-abortion President Barack Obama.

A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released on Thursday covering hypothetical presidential election matchups shows Obama losing to Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney but ahead of Sarah Palin.

Huckabee leads Obama 52-44 percent, while Romney has a 50-45 point advantage - putting both former governors who ran as pro-life candidates in 2008 ahead of Obama.

The results are especially good considering the poll covers registered and not likely voters.

Obama leads Palin, the pro-life former governor Alaska and former John McCain running mate, 52-44. Obama also holds a 49-47 percent margin over pro-life former House Speaker Gingrich.

When it comes to surveying Republicans on the candidates they most want to see represent the party against the pro-abortion president, 21 percent want Huckabee to be the nominee while 20 percent support Romney. Fourteen percent say they support Palin and 12 percent back Gingrich. Ref. Source 4

2012 depression? GOP field shaping up

Mitt Romney makes disturbing comments on global warming, Sarah Palin has another media controversy, Pawlenty flirted with Cap & Trade as governor, Newt Gingrich was interesting in 1994, Rick Santorum may not have the funding. Is Obama beatable? VERY. But the problem is similar to the Democrat situation in 2004 - a vulnerable opponent who loses in polls to any 'unnamed' candidate, but when the candidate is named that's when the problems occur. Who does Glenn like in 2012? Hint: The candidate who reminds him of food. Ref. Source 3

I think Newt Gingrich is an interesting man to watch. If he steps up to run, I'd be real interested to see what he has to say. Yes, he was important in 1994, but got side-railed by some book deal. I think he still has something important to offer.

2012 GOP Candidates Sign Pro-Life Pledge; Romney, Cain Decline

Five of the Republican presidential candidates seeking the GOP nomination to take on pro-abortion President Barack Obama in 2012 have signed onto a pro-life pledge the Susan B. Anthony List has sponsored, but Mitt Romney and Herman Cain have declined.

The Susan B. Anthony List today announced its Pro-Life Leadership Presidential Pledge and said it asked all of the candidates who have officially announced a presidential campaign or exploratory committee to sign the pledge certifying they will not just check off the pro-life box but show true pro-life leadership if elected president.

Signers of the pledge include Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum and the pro-life organization is calling on pro-life activists to put pressure on those candidates who have refused to sign, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, and Gary Johnson. Johnson's not signing is no surprise given his pro-abortion views but Romney has been campaigning as a pro-life candidate since converting to the pro-life position before the 2008 presidential election. Cain has said he holds pro-life views and has repeatedly excoriated Planned Parenthood for targeting the black community with its abortion facilities.

The SBA List confirmed to LifeNews that the Romney and Cain campaigns were contacted about the candidates signing the pledge and the two candidates chose not to do so. LifeNews.com contacted both campaigns for explanations about why they did not join the other presidential candidates and the Cain camp has not yet issued a response.

Responding for Romney, spokeswoman Andrea Saul told LifeNews, "Governor Romney pledged in the last campaign that he would be a pro-life president and of course he pledges it today."

"However, this well intentioned effort has some potentially unforeseen consequences and he does not feel he could in good conscience sign it. Gov. Romney has been a strong supporter of the SBA List in the past and he looks forward to continue working with them to promote a culture of life," she said. Ref. Source 8

Bachmann Leads GOP 2012 Poll, Romney and Perry Follow

Continuing her momentum following her entry into the Republican presidential race, pro-life Rep. Michele Bachmann now leads a national poll of GOP voters after posting leads in polls in the first battleground state of Iowa.

The new survey, conducted by the Public Policy Polling firm, shows Bachmann has taken a lead over her Republican competitors by a small 1 percent margin that is within the margin of error for the poll. Some 21 percent of Republicans put the Minnesota congresswoman as their first choice compared with 20 percent for Mitt Romney, 12% for Rick Perry, 11% for Herman Cain, 9% for Ron Paul, 7% for Newt Gingrich, 5% for Tim Pawlenty, and 3% for Jon Huntsman.

Bachmann's rise has been fueled by her appeal to voters on the more conservative side of the political spectrum as she leads 26-15 percent over Romney with voters who classify themselves as "very conservative." Still, Bachmann also leads with centrist Republicans (23-17) and with those defining themselves as only somewhat right of center (24-17).

UPDATE: Late in the day, a new NBC/Wall St. Journal poll had Romney leading and Bachmann second. Romney remains the national leader with 30 percent of GOP primary voters saying they support him compared to 16 percent for Bachmann. In that poll, perry is at 11 percent, Paul 9 percent and Gingrich 8 percent. Cain gets 5 percent, Santorum 3 percent, and Pawlenty and Huntsman come in with 2 percent apiece. Ref. Source 2

GOP Makes Big Gains among White Voters:

Especially among the Young and Poor: The GOP gains have occurred only among white voters; a 2-point Republican edge among whites in 2008 (46% to 44%) has widened to a 13-point lead today (52% to 39%). Romney and Perry Lead GOP Field on Eve of Republican Debate

As the Republican presidential candidates prepare for tonight's third primary election debate, one candidate and one-yet-to-be-announced candidate lead among GOP voters considering a replacement for President Barack Obama.

A new poll conducted by ORC International for CNN finds Mitt Romney, who has been the frontrunner for months in the Republican presidential election and will participate in tonight's debate, continuing his lead with the support of 17 percent of Republicans. Perry, the Texas governor who will not be in the debate, comes in second place with 15 percent of the GOP support.

The poll comes days before Perry is expected to announce on Saturday at a gathering of conservative political activists that he will soon file the paperwork necessary to officially seek the Republican presidential nomination.

The CNN survey may be limited in its view of the Republican race, because two potential candidates who appear unlikely to actually mount a president bid come in third and fourth place, respectively. New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who backs abortion, and pro-life former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin both receive the support of 12 percent of the GOP voters surveyed - along with pro-life Rep. Ron Paul, who is running.

Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota has the support of seven percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich comes in at five percent, while former Godfather's Pizza CEO and radio talk show host Herman Cain and former Utah governor and former U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman as well as former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania each receive under five percent support. Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson and Rep. Thad McCotter of Michigan both register less than one percent. Ref. Source 4
