I don't think there's anything wrong in principle with acting on religious belief, including politically; it's just another source of ideology, even if it's one I personally have little use for. The problem is that, as with so many other strongly-held ideological positions, it tends to blind its adherents other to important things, like basic humanity and empathy, evidence-based conclusions, or even practicality.
