Southern Darkness - Page 7

The Game Master says...

The thieves decide to make their escape a sudden one, but doing so will not be easy as the secret gap between the inner and outer cave takes maneuvering at a slower pace. You also see the angry Bandits are almost on top of you.

GM: Do you still try to make your escape or stand? I need new combat rolls from everyone except Wuhn.

Thomas decides to make a dash for the free wheeling wagon below. Doing so in heavy plate armor and from up a rocky mountain is certainly a sight to see and the Bandit Archer takes no pity on the situation as he fires arrows toward you. One arrow hits your large shield and the other lands around you. Thomas continues down clanking along until he is finally at the bottom of the mountain watching the wagon go faster and faster towards the South. There is no way he will catch up to it now. Squinting his eyes he notices a Bandit that was below the wagon now goes on top and takes the straps of the horse to guide her even faster away from where you stand.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

Darkness Southern

The Game Master says...

GM: I have not received any rolls from Hayden, but to delay no more I will continue.

Inside the cave room...

Rapier and Wuhn make a sound of panicked grief as they see and mostly feel that they cannot outrun the speed of accurately shot arrows. They squeeze themselves out of their I'll fated treasure room with blood oozing beneath their armor.

GM: Wuhn takes 3hp and Rapier takes 6hp. Please deduct this from your HP. When you reach "0" you are unconscious. "-1" and you are dead.

Outside in the pass...

Thomas shoots at a fleeing wagon and his arrow falls short. Upon seeing that he clanks back as the Bandit archer from above takes miserable shots missing all around him. Looking back you can see the wagon disappear around a bend and behind dust.

Within the cave...

After Rapier and Wuhn drag themselves out you immediately see the secret passage begin to seal.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

A now highly irritated Thomas shifts his attention to the Bandit Archer taking shots at him. He looks up behind his saving shield and helm and notices there is no real way to get up to where the Archer is without significant skill, rope, grappling hook, and of course not in full armor. He wonders briefly how the Archer got up there in the first place.

Meanwhile...

The secret passage is now fully closed and there can be no more sound hear. Then suddenly from the other side of the boulder that now has been sealed shut you can hear a muffled thumping. The sound of the hits makes you feel it is someone driving spikes into the rock from the other side.

The others prepare themselves to move on as they look on at Thomas below the Archer's perch.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

In all the chaos you only now notice no response from the curious lone female fighter... You look... She is red all over as blood drips from her armor. It seems an arrow came through the secret passage before it closed shut. The arrow rests firmly in her chest and her neck is twisted to one side, probably from a fall.

GM: AnbuElf and her character is no longer in this game.

You bind your wounds and prepare yourselves to move to the next cave you saw earlier in hope of something 'better' than you have found here. As you start the Archer takes shots at the group, but the Archer seems over anxious and misses you badly. Thomas seeing the Archer's movement also fires his bow and misses just as bad but the cause is better than the Archer's as it takes his attention away from the helpless group.

It takes you a full ten minutes to get down from the cave and then to the next.

This cave looks no different than the last save that it goes deep into the mountain heading back North and around a bend.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

Darkness Southern

The Game Master says...

GM: First, I will like to repeat... Please do NOT send combat rolls for routine tasks like checking traps. Combat Rolls is for one thing: Combat! When checking traps you use the Community dice and roll the D100 and Post it with Party Order.

Wuhn checks for traps at the cave entrance but does not come up with anything.

You decide to press forward. The cave is narrow and long, in fact you are surprised how deep into the mountain it goes. The ground reveals that it was a place once trafficked, but no one has been here for awhile. Up ahead you can see a heavy wooden door and hear a whirling sound that seems to be coming from behind it. You are far into the cave that you can no longer see Pundit.

Meanwhile...

Pundit looks out for Bandits and he can sense some activity further South but he does not know exactly what. He does not immediately see any Bandits within the vicinity.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

Southern Darkness

The Game Master says...

You make an attempt at opening the door but it is locked. Your thieves look at each other... They have no thieves tools with which to open it. You wonder what to do as Pundit informs you what he has seen.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.

The Game Master says...

You head back to the cave's entrance. On your way back you notice the Thief called "Rapier" does not follow. You shine your light and noticed he is slumped in the corner of the cave. You approach cautiously but just in time to see a serpent slither away under the door. It seems he was bitten by the venomous creature and the dose was lethal.

GM: Rapier is no longer in the game.

From looking South you can see a fairly large storm of dust approaching from in between the mountains. You can hear distant rumbling of many horse hoofs and what sounds like the bark of wolves. Whatever is approaching causes your heart to beat faster. You estimate they are about ten minutes away.

GM: Say what you wish to do now. If you just wish to wait here then I need Combat Rolls from everyone.

Southern Darkness World Medieval PBP RPG - Page 7

The Game Master says...

You decide to boldly stand your ground in the defenseless cave. You four souls awaiting what is coming find yourselves uneasy about the noise that approaches. After what seems to be an eternity you begin to see signs of a horde of bandits mounted and some running on foot with a pack of the biggest wolves you have ever seen. You cannot tell at first how many there are but by the sound of it the axis between them is great.

You then hear them stop below your position. You cannot see them from your location so you imagine they are making the short trek upwards. You wait some more anxiously looking left to right for any sign of a wolf or Bandit.

You are then startled by a unanimous chant... A dark sounding chant from many male voices then silence again.

You begin to smell smoke and see it rising from below. After awhile you hear the wolves become uneasy, they are ever anxious, you can tell they know you are there.

GM: I have not received rolls for Oliron so this is based on pseudo rolls for his character.

Suddenly you see behind rocks and boulders archers appear with flaming arrows. Your heart beats, but there is more. Men with buckets and wooden shields also appear and are rushing towards you.

Thomas quickly fires his bow, one arrow flies through the air and the other hits an archer but does not kill him.

Morton fires the bow lent to him, both arrows miss.

The rest of you can do nothing to attack without missile weapons so you await the onslaught.

Thomas is fortunate to deflect two arrows.

Wuhn doges one but the other punctures his already wounded body and he falls to the floor... Dead.

GM: Oliron is out of the game.

Morton is pierced by an arrow, the damage is not as bad but the flames from it sizzles the area of entrance to his body causing him to scream out loud.

GM: 2HP damage.

Pundit is fortunate and is not hit, but this is not the end of it.

The Bandits with buckets and shield reach just before you (about 10 feet). They stoop and throw the contents of their bucket at you. Oil mixed with some foul odor is all around you and rest on some of your armor, skin and weapons.

Thomas, angered by this, takes out one of the bucket carriers as the rest try to run back down the mountain. While they run Morton shoots one Bandit down.

Then...

You worst nightmare takes place. The arrows already lit in the cave begin to ignite the volatile concoction from the 'Bandit bucketeers'.

You see they are planning to use fire and smoke to their advantage to bring you out of the cave.

GM: Say what you wish to do now.
