The traffic during the Easter holidays is expected to be relatively light. This is due to Easter being early this year, and few people head for their cottages because of high snowdrifts, the Finnish Transport Agency estimates.

Towards the end of the week the weather will warm up, and in the south the temperature will stay above zero at night. However, in the north of the country, night frosts are still expected.

The agency warns that the melting water from roadside snowbanks may freeze on the roads during the night. The use of studded tires is still permitted in the week following Easter, and longer if the weather requires.

The outward traffic will be busiest on Thursday 1 April between 14:00-19:00. On Good Friday morning there will still be plenty of traffic, but the roads should be clearer than the day before. In the capital region, the outward traffic is expected to be heaviest on national roads 3 and 4. The roads around Tampere and Jyväskylä may also be jammed for short periods.

The return traffic will be busiest on Monday 5 April between 13:00-20:00, but there will also be a lot of traffic on Sunday evening. Source: Helsinki Times
