I count myself lucky, i have good parents.  Sure they let me go where I want and stuff but if i'm home late or something they worry.  I should apologize to em for being out late and stuff.  Its really not fair, keep them away when they have work and stuff.  Both my parents work till like 5pm and leave before i wake up.   I don't mind though becasue they get home at a good hour.  Just in time for food smile.gif

Most parents don't punish at all. This may sound stupid, but if you let you kid get away with everything, or nearly so, and don't take the time to punish them, how does this set them up for adulthood. That there are no consequences (or ones that will hurt) for our actions? That is almost a deadly statement when taken in context of adult life....

I find that lots of parents have a 'whatever' attitude towards their children and the children towards their parents, they have serious issues that they need to deal with. I agree in a system of award for good behavior and punishment for bad behavior but the punishment must be explained and learned rather than just do it because the kid did something wrong....

Many children become "not nice"/spoiled people because their parents haven't done a good parenting. It doesn't mean giving all the kids want, like vidogames, toys and stuff, but instead giving them good education. Not only school education, but education for everyday life too. Giving limits and punishing when it's necessary is as important as rewarding when they do something good.

I consider myself lucky because I have great parents, there's pretty much nothing I could complain of smile.gif

I agree with everyone, kids shouldn't be allowed to do everything. When I said I can do whatever I want i meant with limits. The parents only need to punish the kids if they did something wrong. I don't break the law, drink, smoke, do nasty stuff with girls so there isn't a whole lot my parents can get mad at me about.

I guess I should really answer the question this thread is accually asking. Most parents don't do a good job because most kids do drink, smoke, break the law and do nasty stuff together. Although, there are some limits to how much you can punish a kid. You don't want to make them resent you forever. Parents should be nice about it. Don't just smack your kid and yell which happens all too often.

Most parents of today do a horrible job of parenting. Kids today are to wild. Look at the kids of 50 years ago. They didn't have problems with society. The parents of today are causing their young children to be inept at everything they do. The problem is that the parents aren't punishing the kids. If more parents punished their kids, we would have less ADD kids, we would have less people in jail, and we would have less problems with society. Too many young kids do things that aren't right for their age. Pokemon and Digimon are too violent for 6 year olds. What happened to Sesame Street? Too many young kids cuss inappropriately. I've heard kids tell their parents off, and the parents think nothing of it. If I even thought about cussing to one of my parents, my parents would have locked me in my room for 3 weeks, and that would be the easy part of the punishment. I didn't even know about cuss words till I was eight, the worse words I knew were 4 letter words for feces. The technology of today is another problem of the kids. When I was young, I played outside everyday. There was no X-Box or PS2, there was sometimes a little Nintendo before bed, like 20 minutes maybe. The parents of today should insist upon doing family activities with their kids. I play cards with my parents and my little sister frequently. I guess my parents did a great job of parenting me if I just lectured on the problems I see with the kids of today, when the age gap is only 15 or so years. I'm thankful for my parents. On a side note, if my mother told me to bend over so she could slap me, I would. Would the kids of today do that?
