As a child growing up I Iooked forward to May 24 which was known as Empire Day, the birthday of Queen Victoria, the day when all the school children assemble at the Globe Cinema in New Amsterdam, in Berbice, Guyana to be addressed by top officials and then we were served with a big bun and a bottle of Coca Cola.
