Of course due to my recent hard drive meltdown, I am still working through re-installing all of my programs. : A friend of mine brought some software over for me to check out. One of which was called a Download Accelerator. My friend says that it will improve my download time. Has anyone else used this software? I don't want to install something that I don't really need.

is it like Star Downloader? It is a program that downloads files faster |
Maybe not, what I use those things for is if I am downloading a large file and do not want to be disconnected and then lose what I already downloaded. The Star Downloader keeps a log of what you already downloaded and continues where you left off when you reconnect. Pretty cool huh? However you have to use Zone Alarm to keep it form using forced ads .
I prefer Download Accelerator Plus, also referred to as DAP, over Star Downloader, because I have seen Star add annoying toolbars, which are a pain to remove. DAP actually works pretty well by splitting the file into 4 different downloads (either from the same server or different servers) and then recombining at the end of all downloads. This way you get a balanced and efficient download of your program. A good utility to have especially if you don't have high speed internet.
