I do find it truly awful to ban graphic games in any sense, the material included in games is widely available on the internet for anyone who wants it.. the blaming games on the youth thugs is total nonsense.

If a child plays a game then goes and kills 4 people, that child was already psycho,I've played games for years, violent, graphic and pornographic games, they have not made me to be a menace of society, I have not murdered anyone, or become a rapist / porn star, its all about the bringing up. if you don't know right from wrong your parents really aren't bothered about you and have failed as parents, no doubt only gave birth to get an extra cheque each and every week to fund a drug habit.

I think the problem is that theres so many benefits for bums these days that more and more people inspire to do nothing and get paid for it, then they impregnate a number of women, or get pregnant by a number of men, have children left right and centre not give a darn kick them out to play from 8am till 10pm then wonder why they are out of control. Games don't do nothing to the brain. I really do think it is pathetic to blame the games. I really cannot see any logic in it at all, manhunt sold many many copies and only 1 incident was reported to be blamed on it. look at the law of averages, 1 in a million people goes mental from "playing a game" or 1 in a million goes mental full stop.

I play many violent video games and they really have saved me from my self. Many people don't know I can get very angry and with out the ability to go to a game and tear some one to shreds I may become violent and hurt some one. rifle.gif

spock.gif What you said is a contradiction in terms - have you ever thought that maybe some of that violence you admit as part of your behavior and that shows a lack in your self-control may stem from a continuing feeding of violence via games? It is like saying... I hang out in bars, because I cannot drink alcohol - it leads me to being drunk.

Games Sex and Violence

I've played video games since I was 6 years old, and still do at 23. Lately most of the games I play would be considered violent, many are also rpgs. Thinking back Duck Hunt was pretty violent, I mean what did those ducks ever do to you but I digress.
The reason that games seem to be getting more realistic and violent is that the gamers are getting older. Most games now are aimed at the 18-26 age group, mostly because this group seems to have disposable income and grew up with games. Taking this into account it doesn't seem suppressing that games became more mature. Are these new type games meant for children, not really, but neither is prime time or late night television and R rated movies. None of these are the "loaded guns" some seem to think they are, as the kids still have free will and their own values/morals. The responsiblity of parents is to teach the whole right versus wrong thing, as well as the difference between fantasy and reality.
Another point is that games don't really showcase anything new in the way of indiscretions. In real life their really is drug use, swearing, sex, violence, and murder. They've been around for some time, why are people blaming games for these?
If someone does kill another and blames the game, that person is not a victim of games. That person is crazy and should be handled accordingly.
It's been pointed out earlier that access to firearms and violent games is a bad combination, I disagree. Proper training with firearms will prevent most problems that may arise from improper handling. The reason, firearms training if failing in everything else will teach one specific thing; consequences. When I was taught how to use a gun and when I teach anyone else to use one, a lesson on cause and effect is generally part of the training.
In every case where some kid gets caught doing something heinous and his parents blame a game, I grow suspicious. In my mind they're looking for an excuse to justify their actions. It's possible that they saw it in a game, but the decided to take the action darn any consequences that resulted.

Sometimes I really do wonder whatever happened to free speech.

What is that supposed to mean? Free speech for me is creating what you want, that is fine, but when you choose to place it for sale as a product of influence especially knowing that it will mostly get in the hands of those who are under the acceptable age is for me not acceptable.

I think that's when market forces come into play. If violent games are selling well that may mean one of two thing if not both. Either people like virtual conflict or people are violent anyways and games are a safe consequence free medium for it. As the gaming industry is a multi-billion dollar industry this would indicate we are all a bunch of foaming at the mouth psychopaths actively looking for reasons to kill one another or it's fun.

I still fail to see the difference between violence in games, movies, or books.

I really hope you're joking, if not you have me worried. Everyone deals with anger in different ways but still...
