I've noticed there are a lot of LDS members who have achieved success and fame in their particular line of work. i think it comes from the teachings of the church to be hard workers and to excell at what you do.
But look at some of the credits above. Schindler's List ( Rated R ), NYPD Blue-one of the most violent shows on tv, Buffy the Vampire Slayer-( not exactly wholesome family entertainment) and Marriott Hotels- a big retailer of porn.
Are we supposed to look the other way and rationlize that it's part of the business today? I liked Schindler's List, it was a great movie but it could have been done with a PG-13 rating. There was the one bedroon scene with frontal nudity.
maybe I'm being too critical, but it appears we are adopting the ways of the world.

Gaucho where did you come up with this? Do you have documentation? |
I think many people rationalize what they do in business. I think it is wrong in most cases, but I do think it happens. I think this happens in other ways in the Church too. We want to be a part of society. We want to be just like everyone else. We find ways to justify our behaviors.
In relation to Marriott specifically, they are a large corporation so it is likely there is a board of directors that makes decisions and then that is passed down the line to managers, etc. Also, it isn't exactly true that 10% of what porn brings in goes to the Church. I believe salaries are paid and then 10% of the salary goes to the Church and only 10% of the salaries of faithful employees, whether they be a Marriott collecting a large CEO type salary or just someone off the street who cleans rooms. So, unless you want to say the portion of my income the Church receives is a result of whatever legal issues the Firm I work for takes on, it isn't quite fair to say it about Marriott either

Rob Davis is chief of police in San Jose, California In the 1970s, he served a full-time mission in Argentina. He became police chief in January 2004 when Vietnamese residents were accusing the department of cultural insensitivity after officers fatally shot Cau Bich Tran, a 25-year-old mother of two. Davis, who had been deputy chief for several years, began learning more about San Jose's ethnic and religious communities and in particular reached out to Muslims, whom he felt had become isolated after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. He joined about a billion Muslims worldwide in their fasts to gain a better understanding of the community. He received hate e-mails during the first few days of Ramadan, but the positive correspondence outnumbered the negative by about 50-1.
There really are so many members of the church who have made tremendous contributions to society. Resource for this post is:

SCOTT D. PIERCE: SHOCK! CHARACTER LDS AND OK GUY
How's this for surprising? There's a Mormon character in an ABC midseason comedy who plays a pivotal role in the pilot episode, who might recur, who isn't a jerk or hypocrite -- and there's not a single joke about polygamy.

Bruce L. Christensen was appointed to be President of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in April 1984.
Gladys Knight is going to be on Dancing with the Stars. I hope she won't follow the rest with provocative dancing because that is definitely a reason to questions what we believe for the media.
