[Medieval] Scenario III, 'Desolation' - Page 6

The Game Master says...

After much discussion, of which way to go, Mystic says, "Someone should scout out the mountains.  They should go to the very top and see as much as possible and maybe that might help with which way we should go."

Zenobia rises an eyebrow and looking to everybody she says, "I propose that one of our warriors can go to the very top of the mountain and check what way seems the easier. I offer to do it if that's okay with you all. Then based on what I see at the top, we can move east or whatever direction needed it. This has to be quick, precise and without failing. If everybody agrees, just say so and I will climb the mountain right away".

Lucia looks at Zenobia and says, "Ok, I think that would be a good idea.  Just do be careful.  We almost lost you once, we don't want to almost lose you twice.  You are a valuable asset to the group."

Adauwyr says, "Zenobia, it is a good Idea, however you should not go alone. If you were to run into trouble it is always good to have another with you, I volunteer to go with you, that way if there is any trouble you will have someone to watch your back."

"Great idea, Adauwyr,  Zenobia replies.

"Please take from my stuff the grassping hook and the stuff you may think we will need up there on the mountains. Last time I was wounded there so we need to be extra-careful but it's good to have a strong man like you helping me. After taking the stuff, let's quickly go and climb the mountain".

She then turns to Lucia and the rest and say, "Please you all keep your eyes open, we don't know where the enemy is..."

Lucia says, "That sounds like a great idea.  We will all pay close attention to everything around you guys and us.  Then after you get through scouting and climb back down, we can then go which way will be best.  I think you should just find a point that appears high enough that you will be able to see quite a bit, from the top,"  Lucia says and looks at the mountain.  "How about that spot there?"  She asks pointing a high point on the side of the mountain.

Adauwyr then turns to Zenobia and asks "So are you ready? Let"s get going."

Zenobia looks at Lucia and says, "I think we will do exactly as our friend Adauwyr said."

She then looks at Adauwyr and says "Come on, I'm ready to go Adauwyr!"

Adauwyr and Zenobia's plan for scouting the mountain is as follows:

-Once Zenobia is ready Adawyr will travel with her to the base of the mountain.
-Once there they will scout the immediate vicinity to look for possible dangers.
-If the area is clear they should begin their assent utilizing a rope and grappling hook to climb as needed.
-At each plateau they should scout the area as best as possible.
-Then climb back down to report the group, their findings of which way will be the best way to go.

While Zenobia and Adauwyr are scouting the mountains the rest of the group will stay on the ground at the base of the mountain and keep alert to any impending attacks or danger, to the scouts and the group.

Adauwyr and Zenobia get to the base of the mountain, then they start an ascent up a certain section that leads to a peak high enough to see most of the surrounding area. Not being expert climbers you both take awhile to get to the top which is about 3000' up, but now your view is almost as perfect as an eagle's.

You look over everything, you do not see much activity, no signs of life really, the mountain area looks more like a rocky uninhabited area. You however notice something interesting. The area to the North that contains the Village is heavily forested and green, as you move closer to the South you see less trees and more open areas together with a large plain. Then of course the mountain area which you have already established as being desert like. To the South of the mountains you notice that the area does the same thing, going into plains then forested area, but you noice a strange mist that covers the trees. You are not sure why that is. The area referred to as Hordeland is desert like as well. It is similar to the mountains. You cannot see much of any activity from your position. You make your way back down the mountain and most of the day is already gone.

GM: It is now 2:00pm, you will now need to decide your movement, utilizing the multi-tasking spoken of in the Rules thread so that there is focused planning and specific decisions.

Desolation III Scenario Medieval

The Game Master says...

A plan has been proclaimed and you put into action without much delay. This is done with the plan of travelling East and then through the pass in the mountains to the South.  You make a formation with the magicians in between the warriors to help shield them from any impending attacks.

Alert and ready you make up a lot of ground while eatting the biscuit rations and dried meat in your packs and sacks. You begin to think of last night's more pleasing meal and already hope you can make it back for another.

While in this thought you reach the mouth of the mountain to the South. As you begin facing South you notice some figures ahead. You each try to take some kind of physical cover using the mountain edges as a 'cloak' to see what is going on without being seen.

It appears that a small caravan (Caravan is 4 wagons drawn by oxen) is travelling North but a large group of about twenty black cloaked characters are surrounding it. One in particular seems to be the impatient leader, he is mounted on a brisk horse, he roughs up the people in the caravan who seem to be nothing more than poor merchants who just want to be on their way.

You wait a bit to see what happens... the leader seems to be threatening an old man for some sort of answer, the old man just shakes his head and puts his hands up in the air with an attitude of begging, possibly pleading for his life. The leader picks him up by his throat and shakes him violently. Eventually the sword of the leader pierces through his heart and brings his pleads to rest. The caravan (Possibly 5 women, 2 young boys and 2 old men) is shocked and the women in the wagons begin to howl while cries and various pleas can be heard from some of the men who seem to be too young or old to fight.

GM: You are about 200 meters away, they have not noticed you yet. Say what you will do.

[Medieval] Scenario III, 'Desolation' RPG PBP Medieval World

The Game Master says...

The shock of the events before your eyes causes the group to instinctively attack the bandits and their leader, however the magicians stand back. Cloud looks on as Mystic pulls an arrow, locks the shaft and aims for the leader from 200 meters away. A shot from this distance cannot be accurate at all, but he tires his best... 'Swish' the arrow cuts through the air quickly moving like a stone fired from a catapult... the arrow lands 160' away from where you stand, having not accomplished much except to act as some sort of warning shot.

Adauwyr, Zenobia, Kane and Lucia begin a full charge with swords drawn and ready to battle, however because you are doing this by foot and carrying so many things it seems to take about two minutes before you actually meet with the bandits half way. Ten of the cloaked men remained with the leader and the caravan and ten have chosen to attack under orders.

Zenobia is the fastest in the group and arrives first, but is very tired from the run and this gives chance for the bandits to attack first... two are immediately infront of her...

The first bandit swings and Zenobia parries... she also manages to block the second bandit's attack. She swings back but misses terribly. By this time another bandit arrives who wants to get into the action and also misses Zenobia, but Zenobia does not miss this time and he falls to the floor.

Adauwyr arrives just behind and faces two bandits... the bandits attack first...
'Slash' blood comes from Adauwyr's armor... 'Slash' another fatal blow and Adauwyr falls to the ground with body parts in different places, but not before inflicting a great wound to one of the bandits. Adauwyr is dead.

Lucia comes in now panting with great breaths... the bandits also attack first...
Luckily they both miss her and she swings back... 'miss' and 'hit' one bandit is dealt a serious blow.

Kane comes in last, but just in time to meet the last of ten bandits... the bandits seem to have the upper hand and attack first...
One bandit hits a serious blow to Kane that causes him to stagger, and the second bandit hits a vital blow that causes Kane to fall like a log having not even been able to raise his sword. Kane is dead.

Yells can be heard from the caravan, but you are too engrossed with what is going on to look. Mystic and Cloud feel chills go up and down their spine as they see Kane and Adauwyr fall so quickly.

GM: Adauwyr and Kane are dead. Five bandits now face Zenobia and four are now on Lucia... decide if you want to continue the battle, run, or whatever, please say what Mystic and Cloud are doing.

The Game Master says...

Cloud notices Mystic is trying to back up  slowly keeping his eye on the current battle while moving backwards, he is motioning to Cloud...

"Come and let's make a dash for it"

GM: Cloud needs to send the GM a private message if he wishes to make a run for it with Mystic, if not just make your stand in the camp.

Desolation III Scenario Medieval

The Game Master says...

Seconds pass by quickly... Mystic is now out of view. As far as Cloud can tell Mystic started running North West through the plains... Cloud starts to twitch, he is frozen with fear...

Zenobia and Lucia are still in the heat of battle...

The leader, still mounted, tells his followers of ten to stay by the caravan, he seems to be curious about all that is going on and is beginning to trot toward you.

GM: Still awaiting your decision.

[Medieval] Scenario III, 'Desolation'

The Game Master says...

Cloud snaps himself out of his gaze and makes a dash for the wagon. He hops on, grabs the reigns and with a loud yell gets the horse to start moving...

Sadly, Cloud now sees how slow a horse goes with a wagon attached in a situation like this it seems to be an eternity!

Suddenly a cry is heard in the distance... it is not any kind of cry... it is a war cry! It seems like the leader has taken his horse from trot to full gallop seeing that you are trying to escape. Cloud turns his head in time to see him just about to pass Lucia...

The color red engulfs Cloud's mind as he ponders what to do.

GM: Awaiting a response from Lucia and Zenobia now

[Medieval] Scenario III 'Desolation' - Page 6

The Game Master says...

The battle between the bandits and two warriors rage on...

Zenobia manages to parry five bandits, her tough armor and fast movement makes her a hard target, but at the same time she cannot get an attack in.

In the mean time Lucia eyes the leader quickly approaching toward her right side, she thinks quick to stop him by slicing at the horse's shins, but unfortunately a quick blow takes her down to her knees and a follow up blow to her neck leaves her body seperated from her head.

Lucia is dead.

The leader moves on past the ensuing battle and motions to the four that took down Lucia to follow him, and they obey.

Two bandits attack Zenobia, but miss... Zenobia kills one that was already wounded.
The three bandits get their chance on Zenobia... two serious hits leave Zenobia bloody but still standing, the third bandit misses.

The leader is catching up on Cloud and the wagon.

A bandit hits Zenobia again but the wound is nothing compared to the damage she has already received. Zenobia slashes back but only wounds the bandit slightly. The three each try to have their go but miss Zenobia.

The leader is upon Cloud... in a stunt like motion the leader goes along the broad side of the wagon, and with a sweeping move of his sword slices Cloud in many places. The leader brings the wagon under control. The four bandits that was following him are way behind.

Zenobia is still busy fighting and her experience pays off as another bandit falls. The other three miss again. She fights on, but she is starting to get tired, but not so weary that she cannot bring another bandit to eat dirt. She now faces three...

With a cry of frustration Zenobia disembodies another bandit... she faces two who miss terribly.

With yet another cry she slashes tow of the bandits before her in such a way that they fall like cut timber.

The men near the caravan are astonished but do not leave their postion. Zenobia is glad for this. She looks behind to see if she can see the wagon or Cloud... no sign. She sheds a tear, not of sadness, but of pain an anguish as she starts to strut North to where they originally gathered.

Tired and wounded Zenobia sees her wagon being raided. The leader spots her and starts to laugh. He is too busy looking at the spoils of Zenobia's wagon and sends the four men with him toward Zenobia.

Another battle ensues... but not before Zenobia whips out her bow and arrow to fire to shots...
One arrow hits on spot and kills a bandit instantly, the other misses. Three face the bloody Zenobia...

Three miss Zenobia but Zenobia does not make that mistake and brings down another bandit!

Slash... another falls, one remains and he is scared... he runs back to the wagon to meet the leader, Zenobia picks up her bow again... swishhhhh.... hit! Bandit goes down...

The leader looks up only because he hears no more iron and metal... he is amazed and immediately jumps down off the wagon and runs towards Zenobia...

Once again the bow is made useful, an arrow swishes through the air towards the leader... Zenobia hopes to make a hit before he reaches her, but she misses terribly.

The leader is enraged and swings...

Zenobia is dead.

Epilogue: later that evening Mystic tries to get back to the village, but is overcome by the wolves of the night. Mystic is dead. Greaves, now fed up with tardy underlings decides to hire more 'professional' scouts.

GM: The party is now dead. Look for game 4 and camp 4. you may wish to create new characters. Make sure to discuss ways to improve in the future camp, appoint a new leader, etc.
