That's a very good question, JB. I guess I would just wait and see how they react to them. I wouldnt approach them to actively discuss what is out there. I probably would also be a bit more cautious about what I post. In the end I think the honesty in my posts may drop for fear of offending someone I know. Does that mean I need some psychological help?

I have recommended some friends and family to take a look at this forum. So far, none have joined.
The only thing I would be at all concerned about is that I tend to be much more open about my personal beliefs here than anywhere else.
I emailed all my friend about this forum (with my referral address ) but only one joined and apparently he quit after the first day.
I didn't bother invite my parents, I know they won't join, they're not the forum type of people.

Smudge, do not worry, you never want to 'force' or be too persuasive in enticing someone to participate here because it is more work that it is worth. The reason I say this is because they join, you take the time to welcome them, check their posts, etc. Then they never come back. So what is the point?
Hmmm...They was I look at is that if it's something I would be embarassed about my family and friends reading, then should I be posting it? I'm pretty outgoing about my opinions, and if I feel ashamed about writing something on here, then chances are I don't need to be saying it.
That is true Ambria, but I have seen users in the past that have placed as their emotional backbone - this forum. Yes, as strange as it may seem they feel that this is an extended family with which they share more personal feelings. Sadly for some it backfired on them when the same people they were talking about joined! I guess this is why it is so important to keep real names and places out of public settings.
I think people feel more free in forums because your sn is not real, these are people you not know and who know not you.
