I am going on independant news sources.  I recently posted a link to an Assyrian Christian webpage, which reports information directly out of Iraq.  Apparently (I can't verify the source) the Catholic News Service recently reported similar information out of Iraq, that the Shi'a and Christian people, in particular, are thrilled with the US.  It is apparently only a small part of the Sunni minority that are upset, because they supported Hussein.

I believe you about the coverups and lieing.  It is endemic within government, and the media refuses to hold anyone accountable.

Two quick examples are the plane that went down over NY a couple of weeks after 9/11, and the blackout this last summer.  Both times, within hours after the event, while everyone was still saying that they had no idea what caused the disaster, all the government sources were proclaiming that it wasn't terrorism.  Yet the airplane crash was most likely a "shoe" bomber.  Yet the major media still refuse to investigate these things or ask the hard questions.

I believe that there probably are/were other motives for our involvement in Iraq.  But I don't think President Bush needed it.  His approval numbers have actually gone down since our involvement.  Whatever the motives, I think that ultimately it will be good for Iraq.  The Assyrian Christians, in particular have been praying for our intervention for years.

The economy is already improving tremendously.

If it was really about oil, all we need to do is develop the oil that is in Alaska.  Of course, if we do that, it would impoverish Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

If you want to really consider what parts of the war in Iraq were about oil, it was the opposition of France, Germany, and Russia to ousting Hussein.  They, along with the UN, were profiting tremendously from the "Oil for Food" program, at the expense of the Iraqi people.

I agree with you 100%, personally the blackout was not just 'coincidence' for me either, the same applies with those planes you're talking about. But the Media can only work based on really good facts that also can be proven, they just cannot go and invent a story just like that, if they didn't look out for more is because there was no more maybe?.

Now President Bush is on his official trip to Britain and thousands of people who are against Bush and the war against Iraq are preparing a mass protest for thursday, Pres. Bush have said that those protesters are a 'magnificent  proof of freedom' or something like that wink.gif. Now, Bush have thought about this trip long ago as a trip to celebrate the triumph and the success in Iraq. Do you all think this still being possible when we still hearing that soldiers are being killed every day? Or is this a tool Pres. Bush is using to show the American People that Britian still being a strong allie of the United States?.

Not quite sure what you are saying here.  I, personally, expect to hear that soldiers are being attacked and killed for some time yet in Iraq.  Taking Iraq is like nothing that we have done, against an enemy like none the world has ever known.

The hatreds among the radical Islamists makes it necessary for them to keep attacking, no matter what.  They cannot allow a free, democratic society to exist in Iraq, as it would flourish and succeed, showing all their arguments to be the lies that they are.  They claim that it is the Jews and the US that cause their poverty and their oppression, when it is really the oppressive Islamist-based dictatorships that hurt the Muslim peoples.  Freedom to think, to teach, to innovate, and to live has always provided a higher standard of living and a better lifestyle to people.

Even after the Americans pull out of Iraq, the violence will continue, as these radicals will then try to destabilize any new government, and Iran and Syria will also do their best to destroy it.

President Bush, in his visit to Britain, will be a target for the polarized forces there, just as he is here.  The Guardian, a very anti-Bush newspaper just found out, to its extreme astonishment, that President Bush is liked by over 60% of the British people.  The thing is, those who like him, REALLY like him, while those who don't, HATE him.  Just like here.

I think he will use this opportunity to get into the faces of those who hate him, and say, "We were right.  We are right.  Hussein had to go, and the fight against terrorism is going to continue, whether you like it or not.  The price is going to continue to be high, both in dollars and in human life, but it is worth it."

Britain is still a strong ally.  I am totally amazed at Tony Blair, that he is willing to face the fire that he does in supporting President Bush, as he always struck me as being much more like Clinton, that is, an appeaser in the international arena.  I think that the British experience with terrorists in Northern Ireland has given them the point of view that terrorism cannot be appeased.

Anyway, back to Iraq.  What is most amazing is the small number of American soldiers who are being killed and wounded.  The fight is really only begun.

We do agree on many things...   But unfortunately the facts rarely come out until later...   We can only pray that you are more right than me...  It's the problem with greed they say they are going to do things,,, until they get the money (oil) then it's 'we don't have time or money to do what we said we would do'... and then this part of the world will hate us even more...
If you have been over there you know they hate us... mostly,,, unless you are paying them money... at which point they will hold their comments until You leave...  Sure they want a society just like ours... but without us in it...

Being that it's almost an election year here in the states...
It will be hard to have an honest discussion with out politics coming in on it... and changing the focus...

We don't hate president bush... we just think he's a liar...   the venom usually felt
for Clinton by republicans is not shared by democrats for bush.... even with his lies
that is getting our sons and daughters killed...   that is a republican thing...
"can't be wrong".... .  'Can't be wrong, is Never right'

But, back to what we agree on...
The fight is only just beginning, that is true... these folks have nothing to loose... they will most
likely go down in flames...  as their customs are to kill your enemies,  they know if they stop...
someone will kill them... that is their way...  We are foolish enough to think that if we send
Christian missionaries to explain our belief in God, that that will change them...   wrong... it would not
change us would it?.... why in the world would we think it would change them?  That's just foolishness...
But, haven't we all been foolish at times...  It's just not learning from our foolishness that is Stupid...
Continuing to make the same mistakes over and over again... is like being a drug addict...
they always have an excuse for their actions... never admitting when they are wrong...
and we are classic examples of this...   trying to fix a problem that is hundreds of years old is
only the excuse for our being there... when in it's still oil...  for our SUV's ....

I have learned alot from this thread ...

Pray to the Lord that you are more right than me...
bill

Thank God we live in a society where we can have this debate...

What Iraq looks like on TV, and what Iraq is like for the 130,000 troops living here, sometimes feels like two different realities.

The story has a lot of information about what the troops are really experiencing in Iraq.

Saddam Hussein Captured Alive Near Tikrit
18 minutes ago

By HAMZA HENDAWI, Associated Press Writer

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Without firing a shot, American forces captured a bearded and haggard-looking Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) in an underground hide-out on a farm near his hometown of Tikrit, ending one of the most intensive manhunts in history. The arrest was a huge victory for U.S. forces battling an insurgency by the ousted dictator's followers.

"Ladies and gentlemen, we got him," U.S. administrator L. Paul Bremer told a news conference Sunday, eight months after American troops swept into Baghdad and toppled Saddam's regime.

"The tyrant is a prisoner."

In the capital, radio stations played celebratory music, residents fired small arms in the air in celebration and passengers on buses and trucks shouted, "They got Saddam! They got Saddam!"

Looks like it's him. You should see the pictures.
