BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - Iraq's national security adviser said Thursday a "huge treasure" of documents and computer records was seized after the raid on terror leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's hideout, giving the Iraqi government the upper hand in its fight against al-Qaida in Iraq.

National Security Adviser Mouwafak al-Rubaie also said he believed the security situation in the country would improve enough to allow a large number of U.S.-led forces to leave Iraq by the end of this year, and a majority to depart by the end of next year. "And maybe the last soldier will leave Iraq by mid-2008," he said.

Al-Rubaie said a laptop, flashdrive and other documents were found in the debris after the airstrike that killed the al-Qaida in Iraq leader last week outside Baqouba, and more information has been uncovered in raids of other insurgent hideouts since then.

He called it a "huge treasure ... a huge amount of information."

When asked how he could be sure the information was authentic, al-Rubaie said "there is nothing more authentic than finding a thumbdrive in his pocket."

This is very interesting, and I'm sure we will be hearing more about this in the days and weeks to come as it is sorted through and disseminated.

The ugly truth about everyday life in Baghdad (by the US ambassador)

1. Iraqi staff in the Public Affairs sector have complained that Islamist and Militia groups have been negatively affecting daily routine. Harassment over proper dress and habits is increasingly persuasive. They also report power cuts and fuel prices have diminished their quality of life.

LAWYER FOR SADDAM HUSSEIN FOUND SLAIN

Iraqi police Wednesday discovered the bullet-riddled body of Khamees al-Ubaidi, a lead defense attorney for former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Why is it that Saddam's lawyers keep dying? I am leaning towards it being the doing of Saddam when one of two things happen:

1. He is losing the case
2. The lawyer's death may prove an unfair trial

What do you think?

On another note... I notice the US is convicting a lot of her military personnel for crimes against those in the Middle East - what are we to make of this: justice or politics?

It is pure politics. We have a former Marine, who acts like he is a Congressman, who is accusing our active marines and other military of performing all sorts of atrocities, and a large contingent on the Left who think that ALL military are criminals. Because of these and other political issues, it has become very important to sacrifice our military members. They are being judged guilty without evidence and without trials. They are being imprisoned without charges, in solitary confinement without the opportunity to even exercise. When they are taken to the exercise yard, they are shackled hand and foot, so their exercise consists of shuffling for a few minutes.

We hold ourselves to a far higher standard than our enemy. The Left refuses to even COMMENT on the atrocities committed by our enemies, yet condemns every military action.

It is a huge double standard, and I am extremely tired of it.

Hundreds of WMDs Found in Iraq

WASHINGTON - The United States has found 500 chemical weapons in Iraq since 2003, and more weapons of mass destruction are likely to be uncovered, two Republican lawmakers said Wednesday.

I am surprised this news has not been made more popular. Are people just tired of hearing and reading about the WMD?

Many might say that it is tic for tac since those the military capture are said to also be treated that way. It might be poetic justice in a political environment - it is just sad that so many innocent have to pay the high price for it.

If all the horse hockey the liberal news media prints trying to bring down George Bush (who isn't running in the next election) were thrown out and the words of our soldiers printed about the good things happening in Iraq, what would be the attitude of most people? No, I know I'm not going to change your minds, but consider the fact that the major news sources ( who are dieing as we speak ) only print what is bad news, and if there isn't any bad news, they take another poll to prove the last bad news was true.
