Iraq War Post

Well here are some interesting turn of events... I want to see what the reaction of the world to this is going to be.

From Deseret News:

FRANCE AIDED KEY IRAQIS
The French government secretly supplied fleeing Iraqi officials with passports
in Syria that allowed them to escape to Europe, The Washington Times has
learned.

CNN said the tape urged the Iraqis to rise up against the OCCUPYING forces. Does that mean the tape was made after Baghdad was captured? In my opinion, there's very little difference whether Saddam is alive or not. The Iraqis, like caged animals before, are not going to be caged up again. They will not heed the tape's call. And Saddam's loyalists would not dare show themselves right now.

Anyhow, does anyone really know for sure if he is dead or alive? The US govt won't or can't tell us. They won't or can't tell us about Osama either. Maybe it's purposely done so to keep the rest of the world and America in particular, on edge and so that Bush can continue to 'enjoy support' in all his actions.

I totally agree with you on this!!!!. I personally think that the USA knows where Saddam is but they wont tell us! who knows, maybe themselves made a deal with him to get out of Iraq. I will not be surprised at all!....I still waiting to see where ALL the weapons of mass destruction are...:smile.gif

Iraq War Post

Here are some updates on how post war Iraq is doing from the CS Monitor:

1. Iraq definitely does not want to be ruled. I must admit, when I heard the tone of this retired general that was going to 'run' things I knew we were in for trouble.

2. I really thought that they forgot the deceased Information Minister, but I guess not so...

3. What do they expect with all the exiles coming back in? Of course they want an Islamic state. Did they think they would ask for a US kind of constitutional reform?

I believe that the US had no real plan for Iraq after the war, I think they did not expect all the looters, and since they seem to be 'lost' as to what to do their is a new breed of leader: exiled religious fanatics:

From CSMonitor:

Iraqi holy men leap into postwar politics

country. By Peter Ford

The recent bomb attacks show that where as you may conquer a whole country, terrorists have no country.

You just got to love ABC News... they way they analyze the happenings is just so close to my way of thinking... *laughs* Yes, really. Look at below for instance and the parts I like the most in bold:

Lawlessness in Baghad is only one sign of the trouble for the interim
authority, now headed by L. Paul Bremer, the U.S. administrator who was
brought in this week to try to make Iraq work.  The New York Times
reported this morning that Bremer is preparing a series of security
measures that included allowing soldiers to shoot looters on sight.  But
U.S. military officials in Baghdad said today the rules of engagement
haven't really changed.. "We are aggressively targeting looters, but we're
not going to go out and shoot children that are picking up a piece of wood
out of a factory and carrying it away,"

Phew, got me worried there for a second.

said Major General Buford Blount,
the commander of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division who Ted Koppel traveled
with in the march to Baghdad.  He said, "Our soldiers have the right to
defend themselves and have.  And if a looter is carrying a weapon and the
soldier feels threatened, of course he is going to engage."

The bigger issue for the Bush Administration is how to build a democracy
in a country that has been anything but under Saddam.  Tonight, ABC's
David Wright spells out the dilemma for U.S. officials who want to pick up
the pieces in Iraq but don't know how to put them together in a way that
will satisfy their goals and the Iraqi people.  Who does Bremer turn to in
making sure the various arms of government work efficiently when the
Ba'ath Party, loyal to Saddam, has all the recent expertise in running the
ministries.  As one professor asked rhetorically, "They (the Americans)
say they want democracy, but they don't want the Baath Party, Islamic
Fundamentalists or Kurdish independence movement, then who do they want?"

I am suprised about this. If the money was found close by then where are the sons? Where is Saddam, strange that all that loot would remain.

:spock: What about all those mass graves? Saddam is looking more and more like Saddam. I think if they had gone against him for this reason the world would of backed the US, but isn't it strange... still no weapons of mass destruction.

From Deseret News:

FUNDS LOOTED BY SADDAM'S SON ARE FOUND
U.S. officials believe they have recovered most of the $1 billion taken from
Iraq's central bank by one of Saddam Hussein's sons before the regime's
collapse.
