In my experience in the US, people assume way too much when they see your ethnicity. At a hospital, I approached one of the nurses (white girl) and asked a question in English. She was so busy doing something else that she just looked at me and started speaking Spanish. I continued replying in English, only after few minutes she realized I was not speaking Spanish and she said "Wow, you speak English!". I was like "Duh!". And then she said "Your English is great. It is the first time I see a Hispanic coming here who speak English". I know what she tried to say, but for some reason did not sound very good. Hate stereotypes.

Having said that, I am all for legal immigration. I do not agree at all with people going to a country and expect to be given rights when they are themselves absolutely out of boundaries with the law. And let me add, it makes my blood literally boil that in the end, they are the ones that are given an Amnesty for breaking the law and you (me) that try to do your best to migrate legally it is almost impossible and you are doomed to live where you live now.

Can't agree enough. Good friends of ours from South Africa had to leave the country and move to New Zealand. They couldn't extend their visa (legally). I suggested in jest that they ought to just drive 5-hours south and come back through illegally. It ought to be easy.

Of course, they did not.

I'm all for open immigration, and just put in safeguards so that new immigrants aren't a drain on the society (so they can't move here just to suck up public resources). If they aren't taking from other citizens, then why not let them in if there's not a safety risk, I.e., no criminals?

In the end, it's those who got here illegally who have a leg up over those complying with our laws. So wrong...

I keep saying it again and again that we as a country need to stand up and stop the flow of illegal people into our nation. The fact is quite clear and you can go to the FBI crime stats and see that well over 70% of all major crimes reported in the USA are being committed by illegal immigrants. We need to clean up this cess pool we are letting happen in our own back yards.

The other problem I am seeing here is they are taking good jobs away at a time when we really need them. I mean a guy goes to college for years to get a degree but then finds he can't get that job. Some of that I think is due to the fact that many companies hire illegals to do that job. Like being a cook or truck diver. The list goes on further than that but I am just making a point. Then you have an American who is in debt from college and can't pay it.

Like I said the list goes on. With medicare, housing prices, crime, ect. . . It isn't just one problem it is many that are compounding here.

One of the things that ticks me off too is that many Americans died to make America what it is today. They made the ultimate sacrifice to make this country better and protect it. That shouldn't be some small insignificant thing. I don't think we should forget about the fact that those men and women can never see their families again. Their children will never get to be with their parent because they died fighting for the USA.

I come from a long line of and large family of service members and agree that too many people have died to make the USA what it is. We have hundreds of people dying in Iraq and Afghanistan for no reason -- Saddam is dead & no one knows where Osama is -- and receiving shoddy support and confusing orders.

So bring them home!

Put them on the border to ensure everyone entering the country does so legally through a checkpoint.

This will lower our taxes from welfare & medical causes, we are already paying the military to be somewhere, and they will have less costs associated with munitions, medical, support,combat pay, hardship pay, etc.

Put the unemployed LEGAL Americans to work on projects as they did to crawl out of The Great Depression: new highways, bridges dams, etc to repair/replace the originals that are falling apart; building new houses in areas of natural disasters.
This will give the people new, usaful skills while helping & improving the country!
