Where do 'I, Robot' and Terminator fit?

Other Film Inputs?

Some people think that the storyline of Terminator is the beginning of Matrix and I, Robot is the same as the Renaissance. What do you think? Are these movies different stages of the Matrix or they have nothing to do with each other?

The Terminator series, while potraying machines as becoming intelligent, did not follow the premise of controlling humans but wiping them out. This is a big difference between the 2 sets of movies. I,Robot, in my opinion, was a spin-off of the Matrix, sort of a prequel to the original Matrix movie. I have not seen the movie, but the previews, and the stories of the Animatrix, just seem to be too similar. I would definitely say the Matrix story is an original.

When you see 'I, Robot' you will think that you are watching the Animatrix, it is that similar.

Seems like the concept of the Matrix wasnt all the Wachowski brothers' idea. This last October, Joel Silver, the Wachowski's and Warner Brothers settled a lawsuit with Sophia Stewart, whose manuscript for 'The Third Eye' was strikingly similar to both the Matrix and Terminator trilogies. Apparently she had submitted this transcript in the mid-eighties in answer to an ad placed by the Wachowski's asking for sci-fi concepts. Here are the details of the story.

Fittingly enough, Sophia has been labeled the 'Mother' of the Matrix. Regardless of who was responsible for the concept, it still blows my mind to this day.

The production of the movie might have been, but the book it is based on was written in 1950, therefore in no way could it have been based on the matrix. But the movie is so far from the book - the book is a collection od short stories, and the only connections between the movie and book are the three laws, and the characters. Nothing else.

Of course some on Matrix ideas are original but we must admit that the sf culture itself is something that developed over the years and no idea could spring from nothing...What I want to say is that if the concepts that sustain any sf movie would not be already familiar to the public, that movie would not stand a chance at the box office. To judge the degree of originality is not such a good idea.
