The US Federal Reserve has always been a private entity. People perceive it as part of the government but it is not. The fact that it has soo much power is scarey once you realize it is not controlled at all by the government. The person in charge of the Federal Reserve is the real power in this country and almost in the world.

I wonder if the average US citizen realizes this? I think the name "Federal" in there gives the illusion that it is somehow controlled by government but it is NOT. It is a PRIVATE entity and yet CONTROLS the US economy - not the US Government.

I believe the sheeple of this nation are just happy and content that this private company has control of so much power. They see the word Federal and think they are safe. It is the chairman of the Federal bank that has some serious power over the worlds economy.

Not only is it private but its owned by the majority of people not from America! Makes you wonder what our government is doing with our money eh? I read articles about the Chinese buying up our money and how that will affect things, what a laugh. Our money was bought out a long time ago and is controlled by external forces!

Is The Us Federal Reserve A Private Entity?

Yes, the US Federal Reserve is a private entity, which is very frightening indeed. It was set up by President Woodrow Wilson in he 1910's and no sooner had he done so was the banking system (international and domestic) was tested by the onset of WWI. Now a days it servers and the central banking corps of the United States and much of the world for that matter. Aside from a gold depository, its duties are to horde money and dispense (or not) when necessary. It also acts as a check clearing system between banking institutions in times of severe (and no so much) economic crisis. And perhaps its most famous role (as avidly brought to light in recent events) is to be an absolute last resort lender to entities that are deemed to bring severe impact to the economy if left to fail.

now apart from this, the Government does have a bank account at "The Fed" where they withdraw and deposit vast amounts of money (which you can basically guess is FDIC insured [a little laugh for those of you keeping track]) and uses that as its check book. so its essentially your normal small town/large city bank, except its primarily for the banks and the government, and it can also play right field for the San Francisco Giants, and hit 762 home runs for you.

this is where it gets interesting undecided.gif the Federal Reserve, prints the money that is in your wallet. (not really but its the reason it's there.) the mint, and engraving/printing bureaus make the money/coin and sell it to to the federal reserve (you read right, the entity that is responsible for distributing your cash and keeping you in love with every other Friday, buys your money,) who in turn sell it to varies banks and sometimes back to the government itself. This system was very popularly used by the British and was quoted by Ben Franklin as being one of the leading causes of the War of Independence. Now all this seems complicated enough, but its rather simple:

Federal Reserve is the bankers bank. It is the governments bank. When a large corporation is in financial trouble (and providing that their local branch of Chase Manhattan doesn't qualify them for a loan) the Federal Reserve provides them a last resort loan. And they make and distribute your money. Its that simple. The reason we have a federal reserve, is because confederations don't work in political organizations (NATO doesn't count) and it doesn't really work in banking either. If there is one able body that has the ability to regulate and control financial policy, it makes it a lot less hectic than if 300+ banks tried to do so.

Of course they are going to reject that. They are a private company and they do not want the government or the public to know where their money is going.
