Why don't we make more emphasis on this special holiday?

The Church usually has General Conference around this time so I guess the focus is on that. Having something 'extra' at the same time will take away from the invitation to participate in viewing the General Authorities' messages.

What is the "extra" you're referring to? I think the "extra" is General Conference since Easter have been celebrated for centuries now and is a date that cannot be changed but conference can.

I agree with most of what has been said, especially the comments of dbackers and PacLamanite. We believe in the living Christ, not the one who hung on the cross, though to fully understand all that he to sacrifice and pass through while on Earth, it helps to appreciate what he did, even if our depth and level of understanding maybe far from what we can comprehend.

I see and understand that much of the Christian events are Pagan in nature, they were originally planned that way, as any astute scholar of History of the Bible, will know. The Roman Empire, to control the new fast growing Christian movement, decided to accept, to control it, instead of fight it and mixed Christian and Pagan events to make it more appealing to a broader base of the Roman Citizens. Then set about to eliminate all other Christian sects/groups.

I see these things more and more as Pagan, the older I become and the closer I become to the Spirit. But so much has happened, and things are not what they used to be, and the meanings to them have gotten lost. I don't see it as a sin to partake of the events, though as I become older, I see how they are becoming more and more worldly. I do see it as a chance to share time with family, Church members and maybe have a chance to share the Gospel with someone.

I guess the question should be, does it uplift you to be more Christ like, or does it pull you down. They are after all, just events and just objects, and how do they affect us. I tend to look at them not so much as Christian Events, but National Events of the modern culture.

The biggest problem I see today, is turning events like this and others into reasons to entice people to buy more things they may not really want or need. Babylon has many arms today. And many Church members seem to be falling prey to them. That is like the Word of Wisdom, most members don't live the positive side of the Word Of Wisdom, to get the real blessing it offers. It seems like they are waiting for some great plague, that the Word of Wisdom will protect them from, yet they are dieing of cancer, diabetes, heart problems and obesity complications. My wife noticed this conference, how many of them were obese, especially the sisters in the center section, this was not the case, not too many years ago.

The main problem of not living the positive side of the Word of Wisdom and other laws, is that it limits our access to more truth and light and the mysteries of God that are promised, which affects your relation with Godhead, and being born anew of the Spirit. If all did, I don't think the Church would like what we see today, and it is possible, that Christ might have already returned to be among his people. I know that Easter and Christmas as we celebrate might be much different or not at all, if we were all more enlightened. A small thing, but in reality, there are no small things of lesser insignificance. Each thing is a sign, of by their fruit s you shall know them.

God and the Church does give direction, but without the spiritual eyes to see and the ears to hear, we miss the messages. To command more directly, would violate our agency, and God would never do that.

David

2015 First Presidency Easter Message

Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ and the power of His Resurrection, all of God's children will be raised unto life eternal. He gave us His Beloved Son as our Savior to make that possible. The Savior in Gethsemane and on Golgotha paid the price of our sins so that we could be cleansed. That purifying can come to those who have faith in Jesus Christ. Ref. Source 7
