The creature lays in the alcove looking oddly stiff. The questions is, will somebody go into the alcove to investigate the creature?
Thane doesn't find any evidence of a trap nor does he hear any additional noised.
Out of Character: Can you describe the alcove more?
In Character: Thane relates to the others that he didn't find traps or hear anything but he still wants to check out the kill. Thane makes an attempt at checking out the alcove if it looks safe enough, but first he does his usual checking.
The alcove is a plain 10 x 10 x 10 room. It's roughly hewn out of the rock like the rest of the passages. It's not finished rock but you can tell that it was most likely used as a guard post. The creature lays in the middle of the alcove, still stiff with its limbs sticking straight out from its body just as it was when you shot it. Two arrows stick out if it as well.
"I bet the creature was dead ahead of time and was sitting there as a lure to get people into the pit trap."
Ilthin moves up across the pit and takes up station behind Thane. Not close enough for any noise he might make in leather to distract the rouge, but close enough to move up and support him if he is ambushed.
As Thane inspects the creature, he realizes that it is a kobald. It appears that the kobald has been dead for some time and that the corpse was lacquered to avoid rotting. He can tell this by how the arrows broke the lacquer and left two smelly holes in the creature, smelling like death.
As he's checking it out, five small grubs appear to leap from the holes at him, barely missing and lie on the floor. Once they do, he realizes that there seem to be several more living in the decaying insides of the creature.
Ilthin steps forward and stomps on the grubs. He gives a quick 'I told you so' smile to Thane and looks along the walls of the alcove for eye holes where someone might be watching.
