Tulla attempts to scrape at the clear stone between the dark stones of the dock with little success. It is then that she remembers viewing the blue cubes as money and she tells Cadiana such. Tulla and Cadiana both attempt to head towards The Warehouse stealthily.

In their haste they both stumble over each other and roll in a semi tangled mess towards The Warehouse entrance. As they roll to a stop, both Tulla and Cadiana, fill a chill in the air. Tulla who is on her back gasps as she is staring into a pair of glowing luminescent eyes only a couple of feet above her. Cadiana hears Tulla's gasp and rolls over in time to see a second pair of luminescent eyes.

There is an exchange between the first set of eyes and the second pair of eyes. No words can be heard by Tulla or Cadiana but in the Deep Dark, the forms of both can be seen. Haunting, ghastly figures matarialize before the two young girls. One was apparently kneeling down in an effort to help get each girl righted and on her feet. The second had placed a hand on the first as a warning and the first had backed off in a sudden remembrance of what it was.

As for Aleana she runs through the massive double doors in a search for Ket and Thari. Both Ket and Thari are being held by a large woman dressed in what were once fine white robes trimmed with gold on the sleeves, hem, and collar. Thari is crying out in pain her arms clutched to her chest.

Even with her arms clutched to her chest, Aleana is able to see that there is a cold burning blue light emanating from around Thari's chest and arms. Thari looks up at the woman in white, "I panicked and didn't know what to do. Those little lights just came out of my hands. My arms they hurt so bad."

The white clad woman sets Ket down who sits obediently near her. This woman whom everyone at The Warehouse knows as Great Mother Zasa or just Zasa, continues to hold Thari close to her trying to soothe with her voice and reassurance. "Yes dear it hurts but other than the pain now and the marks later there is nothing else to fear about it."

Looking up from Thari, Zasa tells the other adults to gather the children from the water's edge and motions for evreyone else to come towards the great common area in the center of The Warehouse. A few of the adults head out into the night towards the water's edge and collect the remaining children. One stops to help Tulla and Cadiana get to their feet and points them indoors.

With the children gathered and the adults back inside the doors are being shut. Before the doors are halfway closed there are heard six very solid thuds, a sound similar to a person's hand being smacked on stone. Several grunts and groans follow and the adults rush out the doors. One adult exclaims, "My Gabro is back." At this, several teenagers rush out with spare robes and cloaks at the signal from Zasa and Dabius the Scholar.

Orphan says...

Aleana, although not shy around other children, was nervous around other adults. Being an orphan, she had never had the same upbringing as the other children. The exception was Dabius the Scholar. As the most learned man in town, Dabius was responsible for teaching the young children their letters, and was one of the few that knew of the world outside the community. As such, Aleana had often spent time with him outside if lessons, trying to uncover the mysteries of her past. She even showed him the map, which had been found on her when she washed up on shore, the ink smudged so it was almost indecipherable. Aleana has not shown this to anyone else, even the other children, for she has to discover for herself where she came from, and where she belongs.

She tentatively approached the Scholar "E-excuse me, Dabius, wh-what is going on?"

Cadiana tumbles in a heap with Tulla. She flushes in embarrassment. She hears Tulla gasp so she turns over and looks up. Gazing at the glowing eyes she freezes in shock. Goosebumps form on her arms. She remains still hoping they will leave her alone. As the ghostly figures pull back she lets out her breathe just now realizing she had been holding it.
One of the adults comes out of the warehouse and helps her to her feet. She walks as if in a daze towards the area everyone is gathering in. Cadiana ponders numbly what those figures were. She wraps her arms around her thin torso as she is still shaken. Hearing thuds from outside she breaks out of her daze and looks wonderingly towards the door. She wonders what could it be.

Once back on her feet, Tulla cautiously searches the crowd for her father and slowly makes her way inside the warehouse. As she passes Cadiana, she grabs her hand and motions for her to follow.

"We should stick together for now," Tulla calmly says.

Deep Dark and The Warehouse

The three sets of double doors facing the street south were open and there was a flurry of activity as children were gathered from the water’s edge and six new figures were ushered in wearing freshly laundered robes of white. Most of the children were promptly escorted off to bed by parents and older siblings and guided up the flights of stairs to their respective rooms above The Warehouse’s main floor. Those children not sent to bed were gathered into the great common area at the center of The Warehouse.

These children were joined by teenagers, single adults, parents, couples, and a few elderly. Each took a seat on a wooden bench, “crate”, or stacks of “crates”. The “new” house guests were sitting with those who seemed the most familiar with them and hushed voices could be heard saying or asking varying questions about well being and such. For Tulla and Cadiana, they noticed the Ghost Light Eyes from the street had taken places behind the rest of the residents.

At a signal from Dabius all the double doors are pulled shut and the torches and lanterns are put out. The only light emanates from the “crates” and from the Ghost Light Eyes behind the gathering. A cool blue light washes over the gathering from the floor up. Dabius pulls from a pocket a pale green phosphorescent object. He pulls a ten foot long pull out and attaches the green object to one end.

Nodding Dabius climbs the stairs to the second floor and waits for something. A dwarf gets up from the “crate” he was sitting on and takes the crate to a recess in the wall at east end of The Warehouse amongst some stored cargo. Pushing the box into recess an audible “click” can be heard and then the blue drains from the cube. A few minutes pass and the blue illuminates a series of drawings on the walls of the second floor and the under side of the circular balcony of the third floor.

There are thirteen pictures on the walls, the first of which has a large shadow cast over its left side. The pictures brighten all the way to the seventh picture. With the eighth picture there is noted a fade in brightness until the thirteenth picture which has its right side covered by the same shadow that the first has. On the underside of the third floor balcony are the phases of the moon, you are told.

The gathering sits in wonder and awe and Dabius speaks.

“Three years ago this evening at the hour of Deep Dark at the end of the thirteenth month, we experienced a break in the science that binds most of here. It happened last year and it happened again this evening.”.

Orphan says...

Out of Character: What calendar does the island use? How many days does the 13th month have, and is the year divided differently?

In Character: While many of the children were being put to bed, Aleana stated through a cracking in the warehouse door, making sure the monsters were truly gone. Once she is certain that they are safe, she sits down next to Thari. In absence of an answer from Dabius about what was going on, she asked Thari: "How did you do what you did? That was like something out of a story, of wizards and knights, Dungeons & Dragons. Surely all the stories I've heard cannot be true.

Aleana had memories of being in an orphanage but they were wispy dreams and faint images at best. Sitting next to Thari, she noticed Mother Zasa. When Aleana had hastily asked her questions, Mother Zasa had touched her shoulder to reassure Aleana.

As Mother Zasa's fingers touched her shoulder, Aleana's mind was calmed and a previously hidden memory surfaced. In this memory, Aleana was much younger and she was laying on her back and crying. As she grew more restless a figure in white had appeared in her view and whispered a couple of calming words and spoke her name. Hearing her name Aleana had calmed and allowed herself to be held by this figure in white.

The memory faded and Aleana found herself staring at a calming smile and hearing her name from Mother Zasa's lips. And peace and calm washed across her body.
