Donald Trump vs Hillary Clinton - Page 6

There have been moments of serious clashes, including over Trump's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Republican nominee's immigration positions.

"We have some bad hombres here, and we're gonna get them out," Trump said.

But overall, the first part of the debate was dominated with exchanges over substantive policy issues, harkening back to previous election cycles that lacked the bitter personal battles of 2016.

Clinton said the Supreme Court should "Stand on the side of the American people, not on the side of powerful corporations and the wealthy."

Trump said that the Supreme Court is "What it is all about" and rebuked liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg for criticizing him before later apologizing. He warned that if Clinton were President, she would gut Americans' right to bear arms.

Clinton denied that she opposes the Second Amendment but called for legislation that included comprehensive background checks and efforts to close the so-called gunshow loophole.

The candidates also clashed over abortion rights, with Clinton insisting she would defend Planned Parenthood and the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision.

Trump hit back saying she would allow late-term abortions. "You can take the baby and rip the baby out of the womb in the ninth month," Trump said.

Clinton accused Trump of adopting "Scare rhetoric" on the issue.

Donald Trump refused to say he would accept the result of the presidential election in November.

“I will look at it at the time,” he said at the final presidential debate. “I’ll keep you in suspense.”

Hillary Clinton called his response “horrifying.” Ref. CNN.

Donald Trump started out well and as soon as Hillary Clinton got under his skill all his composure in the beginning was lost. He was taking it too personal rather than addressing issues. He also lost points for not simply saying that he would agree with whomever won the election.

Trump had a chance to show that he was presedential but all he did was repeat the same from the first two debates. Trump won't change and the way he behaves makes him unfit to be president of the most powerful country in the world.

Best debate out of the three. The moderator was tough on both candidates and asked fair but hard questions. The answers were political stump speeches for the most part and we didn't learn much new. When the question was too uncomfortable, they just didn't answer them. Trump's message is getting more honed in but both candidates speak in sweeping generalities. This is especially true when talking about the economy. Trump is good with quick one line put-downs but that isn't the place for it and it makes him look petulant. Hillary is a robot on bullet points and is great at just refusing to answer a question. Neither of these candidates is mentally clever. These platforms are fun to have debates over, but in honesty, the president cannot do by themselves for the majority of what has been spoken about in these debates. They need congress to do it. Tax Code changes don't happen in the White House and congress doesn't like either of these potential presidents, so don't look for much support for all this talk of policy platforms and what they are going to do. Some of it might squeak through on executive order, but they need to wield that tool carefully or at some point it will be successfully challenged in SCOTUS.

The moderator did a good job of keeping of keeping them on track but we did not get any closer to discussing the real issues. Hillary is a duplicate of Obama and that's probably why so many want to see her go. Anyone think Trump will call for an uprising if he loses?

Executive orders are already in place to take over the country through continuity of government. Executive orders have been used to expand federal powers pretty much without limit, so the debates should focus on the office in question, rather than a list of objectives that are outside the purview of the Presidency. In that we are agreed. Unfortunately, the host of the debates do not want hard questions that must be answered. Ask the League of Women voters.

I want to see what will happen at tonight's NYC dinner. They're supposed to be poking puns at each other but it may not be that way with Trump in the house. What could go wrong? *laugh*.

I really can see this ending up as a reverse of the 2000 election with Trump winning the popular vote and Clinton winning the electoral college.
