Kyra misses her retaliatory swipe as support is summoned in, but the fire elementals also miss. The cat-like Silvanshee heals Akiros (3 healed) and meows at Kyra's black cat, Akil, who hisses back sharply. Hegin's and Akiros's arrows both hit (Troll 2: 8+4 damage).
The troll heals a bit and goes for the most painful opponent, Mykael. It's bite and claw can't get through the plate, but it second claw scrapes his left arm (Mykael 4 damage). The other troll is now 280' away.
Kyra still can't land a hit, neither can one elemental. Mykael cuts deeply again with two blows (Troll 2: 7+6 damage) and the fire elemental scorches it (Troll 2: 7 damage 2 fire). It falls to the ground, clutching its burns.
"Hold fast," the order comes from the surprisingly loud and commanding gnome paladin. "Let the others catch up," He adds with amazing prescience. In the meantime, the fire elementals burn the troll to a crisp.
Three rounds later the other troll comes into range. Theaton has caught up and adds his arrows to Hegin and Akiros's volley. The gnome's radiant arrow hits (Troll 1: 7 damage) along with three of Theaton's (Troll 1: 5+4+3).
The troll is undeterred and charges into combat. Everyone attacks at once. Kyra slashes it, Mykael stabs it, the fire elementals smack and burn, and the Silvanshee bites (Troll 1: 4+12+4+7+8 damage, 3+4 fire). The troll crashes down hard, desperately clawing towards Kyra with mouth agape, wanting one last bite. It doesn't make it all the way and dies.
Kresnik and Jesla arrive to a bonfire involving a couple of Troll's corpses.
Out of Character: Being tiny sized, the Silvanshee must share the troll's space to attack it, so doesn't flank.
Sorry about how powerless that battle made some of you feel. It's probably good that your weaknesses showed through in a lower-risk environment. You should be able to cover them with abilities or magic next time, or just generally better planning or tough decisions (Like not saving the horse). All the same rules apply to the enemy.
Everybody, meet the newest addition to the party, Kyra, who for some reason travels with Hegin and Akiros, and has lost her horse. Please introduce yourselves, and where to from there?
Kyra sees a gnome in bright green clothing come jogging down the hill. He's clearly out of breath, but manages to gasp out, "Healing! Who needs it?"
He'll move from person to person, healing wounds as needed.
Introducing himself can wait until his work is done, but when it is, he'll doff his tall hat and give a flourishing bow. "Kresnik Yimble, at your service. I don't suppose one of you are missing a horse? I'm afraid I couldn't catch her, but she went running downriver. The troll chasing her has been dealt with, so she may be all right."
Out of Character: One CSW for Kyra, who I understand was near death before. One CLW each for Hegin and Akiros, and assessing if more is needed afterwards. For Thomaslee's benefit to avoid confusion, as far as Kresnik and Jesla are concerned, those with Kyra are strangers. But Archival, Mykael, and Theaton know Hegin and Akiros from before. When Jesla gets close enough to see the situation is resolved her face reddens in embarrassment. She stops and waits for Kresnik before walking any further. Jesla still feels very drained of energy and is glad to slow down to the gnome' pace. She nods to him " Thank you for whatever you did to help me move faster. Too bad I am here too late. " She scowls and doesn't say anything else.
As they walk up to the main group Jesla has a wry smile on her face. " I trust these poor trolls were given every opportunity to quit their wicked ways. " Jesla laughs. She nods to the newcomers and doesn't say anything. She stands there quietly observing for a moment then turns and studies the river in frustration.
Theaton looks over at Hegin and Akiros. "Well met my friends. Who is this that you are traveling with and where did you find the trolls?" Looking to the new comer he says, "I am Theaton Marshal of this kingdom. Glad to make your acquaintance." Looking at Jesla he smiles and says "No I forgot to ask them if they would desist with their destructive behavior but I did not think they would have listened anyways so they perished." He turns to make sure no more things are heading their way as he looks over the group.
Kyra was appreciative of the healing, yet still felt embarrassment and frustration at how difficult the battle with the trolls while those she did not know seem to have fought them so easily.
Still she smiled, and now able to stand she offers a bow before saying, "I thank each of you. I am Kyra of Katapesh, Chosen One of Sarenrae." The paladin was grateful, which showed on her face though there was also other emotions there was well.
Gesturing to her familiar, she adds, "Also, this is Akil. My companion, friend, and adviser who aids in my path." Kyra did not want to forget him and offers a smile to the feline.
Though the battle was offer the young woman did turn to Jesla to ask, "Please, you look exhausted. May I?" With the barbarian's permission, Kyra would ease her exhausted for at least the time being though if such is not given she would leave it be.
On the trolls she admitted, "I did not at first recognize what they were, nor the danger. Though I did not speak the language of giants, I did at first try and see if they might let us by without trouble." Kyra sighed, frustrated with the situation and how it turned out.
Looking to Kresnik, she smiles before saying, "The horse is mine. Though we do not share the close to bond as others like myself, he is still important to me." It may have been foolish, healing the horse, but to Kyra he was important.
Turning to Theaton, she says, "We are on our way to Freehold, so that Akiros may serve a probationary period of community service." Kyra would allow the man of which she spoke to explain why or Hegin, though if pressed and they would not she was willing to continue. Edited: Thomaslee on 10th Feb, 2017 - 7:40pm
Jesla hears Kyra coming over to her. When Kyra offers to ease her fatigue Jesla shakes her head " I'm fine. Thank you though, Kyra. I am Jesla of the mighty Kellid. I need no magical relief. I do not rely on things that bring weakness. " She turns back to watch the water flow past slowly.
When Kyra mentions about trying to speak with the trolls to seek safe passage Jesla laughs and turns around. " Trolls are evil innately. They are born that way. You could speak with every troll that has ever lived or is yet to live and none of them would have let you go in peace. Assuming that you can talk to anything or anyone and reason with them is a dangerous proposition." Jesla glances at Archival and Kresnik as she finishes speaking.
.
Looking to the silvanshee, I ask in Skald, "Please dry my clothes and instruct the fire elementals to burn all of the bits of troll flesh remaining." She nods and instructs them before using Prestidigitation to complete the task while I gently scratch behind her ear.
Standing slightly over six feet tall with platinum hair and gray eyes, I wear the accoutrement of a noble under black padded armor adorned with a small red dragon emblem. Armed with a curious dagger and light crossbow embossed with the name Kellywells on its stock; you might notice that neither were actually drawn during the rescue.
"Well and fortuitously met again, Akiros and Hegin. I am glad we rushed ahead to see if the rider of the horse being pursued by the troll was still alive." Turning to Kyra, my easy smile widens genuinely. "It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Archival Oragor; welcome to Kamelarn! I am sorry the first greeters were not more… amicable," I joke with a slight chuckle.
When Jesla's quip is made, with a straight face and deadpan tone I look to the others and state with a wink, "Meet our royal enforcer - who is also apparently attempting to fulfill the role of court jester too. How enterprising." As Jesla studies the river, the dolphins jump and dance playfully.
