Jesla upon waking up begins stirring around the camp. Everything seems to be in order until she notices Theaton is gone. Looking around she sees his bedroll and horse are still there. " Theaton seems to have wandered off somewhere. I'll go check on him to make sure he is okay. If anyone else wants to go as well feel free to do so. " She heads to his bedroll and begins looking for tracks. Jesla will then attempt to track him to his location.

Specific Action: Use survival skill for tracking.

Out of Character: : I know rangers can't be tracked in their preferred terrain. I have no idea what his preferred terrain is so hopefully she can track him.

Kresnik says, "Here, let me go with you, I may not know much of tracking, but I may be of assistance all the same."

In the event Theaton cannot be easily located, the gnome will cast Locate Object, targeting some unique belonging of the ranger's that he is familiar with.

Game Master says...

There is the scantest clue left which way Theaton left the camp - northwest - identifiable only by bent blades of grass which suggests no struggle and only 2 creatures travelling.

After taking half an hour and covering a mile, Jesla loses the track. After an hour of searching around the last clue neither she nor Kresnik can find it again.

Jesla grits her teeth in frustration. " I give up Kresnik. There is nothing else to find. The man is a ghost. I'm not the best tracker anywhere but I'm very good. "

She stands up from the trail and shrugs. Jesla looks to Kresnik. " I'm very worried for him but don't know what else to do. "

Suddenly she grins. " There is one other option. In my other form I can track by scent. I don't care if he left a trail or not. He left a scent. The only problem is that I have a limited time I can hold onto my tiger form. Tracking is slow work. If I lose my form out here I will be very vulnerable for a time. Do you have any other ideas?"

Theaton sits in the river as he waits. He is tired but not sure that he will be able to sleep. While he is awake he tells White Fang to go hunt and get some food. He will wait here calmly as he looks about.

Upon noticing that Theaton is not among the group Mykael hurriedly dons his armor and gathers his gear, he would accompany Jesla and Kresnik as they attempt to find his companion and express frustration when they are unable to do so.

"I'm telling you, undead like that thing claiming to be Dravik are not so easily dismissed and disposed of. I had a feeling that the encounter was not over and mark my words that undead fiend has something to do with this… Unless maybe Theaton has abandoned us on account of his philosophical differences with our ruler? Surely he would have said something though."

Jesla looks over at Mykael. " I wouldn't be surprised if that foul creature was behind this. I didn't believe that thing claiming to be Davik for a minute." She purses her lips in thought. " As to your other possibility mentioned, I don't believe that Theaton just left. He isn't that kind of person. Theaton would have told us if he was leaving. I wouldn't be surprised if he left in the future though. The path we are headed on will only lead to ruin. " She shakes her head. " Let me try this for just a moment. "

Where the barbarian stood a moment before there now stood a 9' tall tiger on her hind legs. Speaking in a low rumble she says " Now I will try to find the trail again. " She walks to the last clue they had and bent over. Her nostrils flared as she searched for his scent.

Specific Action: Ske will spend no more than 10 rounds trying to pick up his scent and begin trailing him.
Out of Character: : If she can't pick up his scent by then to resume tracking she will revert back to human form.

Game Master says...

Jesla in tiger form follows the scent trail for 400'. After that there is another faint set of footprints. Jesla, Kresnik, and Mykael follow for another 2 miles, approaching the river, and finally you see Theaton, leaning back with legs floating in the water, and White Fang beside him.

Out of Character: I'm probably a terrible GM because I stick too closely to the rules, but by the rules, Jesla only has the scent ability for 2-3 minutes. With those first 2 rolls, you were also able to track Theaton by regular means.
