Theaton looks at Archival. "Do you want to add anything else or are we good here?" Turning back to the chief, "I thank you for the time and listening to our rules. I do can not read these words", points to the ones written in undercommon, "Can your scribe write them in Draconian for us so we understand what is written better?"
Shrugging and with a slight grin I reply, "Maybe a clarification of our roles would be in order for them. Or you can eventually have them think we lied to them through omission - it is on you. We have delivered our laws and offered our friendship. We should get back to work."
"Oh these?" The scribe asks offhandedly. "There are the dead shaman Tartuk's old notes. I also cannot read them, but it's the only paper we have."
The chief suggests, "Maybe we can get more for our shiny rocks? And other supplies?"
With the meeting coming to a close, it's already dark outside and the chief offers you a place to stay in the cavern. Now that you have been standing around for a while, the smell is no longer that noticeable. It would seem the kobolds have been busy since Theaton was last here. There are a few new roughly-hewn caverns and Tartuk's quarters have been converted to be communal.
Upon hearing the scribe's confession, I reach into my backpack and pull out one of my journals, an inkpen, and a vial of ink. "A scribe should always have parchment, pen, and ink available. It would honor me to have you accept this gift."
Turning to Chief Sootscale, I reply to his inquiry on the shiny rocks, "What exactly are these shiny rocks that you speak of? Has anyone identified them? I assume they have some value if Oleg is trading you for them. How many locations are there and are there any other types of shiny rocks that you would like identified?"
When offered the opportunity to stay the night I reply, "I appreciate the offer of hospitality and gladly accept. We will depart at first light and return to our duties in Kamelarn's Freehold."
When I get a moment with the scribe, I clarify that Kamelarn is the kingdom's name, Freehold is our capital city, and who is in which leadership role. "We are awaiting the arrival of our tentatively appointed Grand Diplomat. I will alert you ahead of time. I will also ensure that you are given a description of our coat of arms so your forces will be able to tell the difference between potential threats and allies. Do you care if I look at Tartuk's old notes to see if I can decipher anything?"
Out of Character: During our meeting I will take a 10 on my Diplomacy, for a result of 26 to influence the kobold's attitude toward us.

As the meeting is winding down, and the subject of staying the night comes up, Kresnik speaks, "I must confess to some curiosity concerning Tartuk's notes. If I may borrow them, I should be able to copy the contents in Draconic in the morning so that both our peoples can read them."
Mykael feels that Archival has enough escort between Theaton, Jesla, and Kresnik and decides to remain at the fort/tent city and work with Kesten on securing the area, joining up with the occasional guard patrol (Assuming there is at least a small number of guards available; if the settlement is not big enough for guards then I guess Mykael will sort of fall into that role) to help quell any disturbances that might arise among the residents. He presents the residents with the opportunity to form a volunteer militia to help defend the settlement and will work with the local blacksmith (Assuming there is one) to help craft weapons since he has a rank in crafting/weapons (Swords or maybe spears) for the militia.
Theaton will tell Achival, "The shiny rocks are lumps of gold if I remember correctly. We can offer them the same as Oleg and trade for food and other supplies the Kobolds will need for survival. Yes giving them the names of the important people in the kingdom and our symbol will help them learn to know who to trust in new kingdom." Turning to the chief again, "Yes we will gladly stay the night and enjoy your company a bit longer before me must depart again."
The scribe thanks Archival for the paper and brings back 11 more pages of notes in Undercommon. He says, "I guess I won't be needing these any more. Take them if you want. You seem interested."
With all the notes in hand and a space to work in a vacated den, Kresnik and Archival begin translating. It takes a good 5-10 minutes, but eventually you get the first page. It talks about the acid splash spell, how to cast it and various experiments on what burns and what doesn't. It is numbered 8.
You split the work and Kresnik gets though more pages (6) discovering observations on the carefree nature of birds in flight and the possible mechanics of that (Page 46), anger that a simple spell like Reincarnate can go so wrong and cause him to turn into a kobold with garish purple scales (Page 22), sour seasonings that can be found in the wild or even conjured (Page 7), nothing but anger and resentment at the world and at nature and druidic magic (Page 26), kobold psychology and their social structure that is somehow related to gods (Page 32), convincing kobolds that ritual suicide is the only way to save their village (41).
Meanwhile Archival reads his 5 pages, surmising that he calculated trajectories perhaps of catapult shot or dropped objects, before ending abruptly halfway down the page (Page 48), disguised himself and visited a magic store to by a Scroll of Fly on 2 Kuthona 4706 (Page 47), he cruelly caused a kobold civil war and got a village burnt down for his own enjoyment (Page 37), arrived at the Sootscale village half a year ago and immediately began plotting their downfall (Page 43), potential pick-up lines and attempts to chase gnome girls in Jovvox (Page 18).
The stones actually do not have a yellow sheen to them, they are a shiny grey. Mikmek, who has become the kobolds' trader, doesn't know what they are, "Oleg just refers to them are 'ore'. He's always very happy to trade for them, so I pick only the best, lightest shoes." He points to the simple sandals on his feet. "This is the only cave we get the rocks from - the Sycamore tree warren has only dirt. Do you want a small one? Trade for something shiny?"
Out of Character: Does Theaton want to leave at night?
