Thurl Bailey Fireside in Carson this Sunday!

The African American Affairs Council, in association with the
Southern California Public Affairs Council, presents a Sunday
Evening Fireside featuring Thurl Bailey.

Sunday, September 18th, 2005 at 7:00 pm in Carson, CA.

About Brother Bailey:
From the youth to the corporate world, Thurl Bailey inspires others
to win whatever the odds or disappointments. His impressive
background includes being drafted by the Utah Jazz NBA team as the
1983 7th round overall pick, because of his outstanding leadership
skills and the quality of his character, as well as his impressive
basketball skills.

To add on to his list of credits as an NBA star and inspirational
speaker, Brother Bailey is also an accomplished singer/songwriter,
with three successful albums, a businessman, a community advocate
and a game analyst for the Utah Jazz and the University of Utah
men's basketball team. His courtesy and integrity both on and off
the court and his strong sense of community service have led to
numerous civic awards and earned him the nickname "NBA's Mr. Nice
Guy".

Brother Bailey has been invited to southern California to share his
story of conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day
Saints. As with previous African American Affairs Council
firesides, this is an excellent opportunity to invite friends and
those investigating the Church.

Admission is free. Come early; seating is limited. Drinks will be
provided and you are welcome to bring cookies or other refreshments.

Sunday Oct. 9th 7pm
President Randy Hale newly called as a counselor in the Long Beach East
Stake Presidency will be speaking.

Mid-Singles Mega Game Night
Saturday Nov. 12th 7pm
See who will be crowned the Mid-Singles Halo I Champion. Participate
in the Dance Dance Revolution dance-off. Play various video games
projected on a mega big screen. Play Settlers of Zarahelma or other
traditional board and card games.

Win door prizes and other fabulous prizes! Win gift certificates to

All Mid-Singles events are held at the Atherton Building unless
otherwise notified.

Firesides are held the 2nd Sundays of even months at 7pm - no fireside
in December.
Activities are held the 2nd Saturdays of odd months at 7pm.
Planning meetings are held right before the fireside at 6pm on the 2nd
Sunday of even
months.

SM3/LA1 Film and Theater Club Upcoming Activities!

To all those interested in film, filmmaking, tv, theater, theater
production, and "the industry" in general, the Santa Monica and Los
Angeles singles' wards' "LA Clubs" program brings you the Film and
Theater Club!

On Tuesday, November 15th we are arranging a trip to see a TV taping
of "Less Than Perfect", starring Sara Rue, Andy Dick, and Patrick
Warburton. For those who have never been to a real life TV sitcom
taping, this is a once in a lifetime experience you don't want to
miss. Plus, for every person we get to come, we earn a certain
amount of money. ALL of the money they pay us will be given to the
Church's humanitarian aid fund to help victims of the disasters
recently suffered by people throughout the world, including
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. So, you won't want to miss this
opportunity to be entertained, get a behind-the-scenes look at
television production, and raise money for a good cause! What else
are you going to do on a Tueday night?

ALSO, we will be arranging to go see another TV taping, "Reba"
starring country star Reba McEntire, on Tuesday, December 6th. If
you are interested in attending, please e-mail the abovementioned e-
mail address. Again, money will be given for our simply showing up,
and this will be donated to the disaster relief funds.

ALSO ALSO... regular group meetings for the Film and Theater Club
will take place every other Saturday at 2pm, centering on monthly
projects, so bring your movie and theater ideas! The next meeting
is Saturday the 22nd of October at 1807 Corinth Ave #2 in West L.A.
(by Santa Monica Blvd. and Sawtelle, near the LA Temple).
