Apologies for my silence, I was seriously under the weather, will address all of your notes.
TJ, the crime scene is relatively innocuous at this point, you don't notice anything odd in the foot traffic.
Lau, looking close you can find a few traces of blood on the pavement. The only part that is yellow is the symbol itself. As the sun travels across the sky, the alley falls into shadow, and you note that the symbol is glowing very slightly. Less than a glowstick but visibly.
back in the church. The young woman blinks at the questions, gives her name as Amy King. To Konrad's question, the takes a deep breath before answering.
"We are a bit controversial, and followers here tend to commit their time and energy rather heavily. We've had a lot treat us as a cult, and worry about brainwashing. Government investigations too. It's a bit of a headache, frankly." She sighs heavily. "Family members get confused when they look closer. We do, of course, appreciate the time and energy that our followers give, but unlike the groups they are comparing us too, we have no interest in the followers giving up their life. They do tend to give us some time, but that's all. And as for the money issue, which, sadly, is an issue for most family members," She points to a sign on the wall behind her, next to the door leading deeper into the building that clearly reads, "No financial donations are accepted."
"We don't want your money, gentlemen. The only things we would accept money for, and that is only rarely, are the items that sometimes appear at the services." She smiles a bit smugly. "We can't fault a comic collector for expressing gratitude at a mint copy of action comics number one, for example."
(As I was checking out the various sites, I think I'm ahead in time compared to the rest of the group. Watching with interest from the sidelines until things catch up....)
(Also, parenthetical notes should be put in parentheses, not square braces, as otherwise the website thinks it's an attempt at a tag. This has been today's Internet Tip.)
Lau, upon seeing TJ, waves and greets him. "How has your day been? See any movies that interested you?"
Continuing on, without missing a beat, "I was going to see that new thriller, but I got distracted by the birds. Specifically one that favored this spot." With that Lau points at the spot on the ground that has some of the same pigments as the symbol on the wall.
Konrad is a little confused by these revelations. It didn't make sense to him that that they do not take money yet continued to operate. Surely there was something on the side. Something less than legal.
Nonetheless his interest was piqued and he had to ask, "You can't just be a self help organisation. As a religion there has to be some god or belief you follow. Right?"
If she offers and invitation to a meeting, Konrad will jump on it out of curiosity.
Konrad, Joseph, an invitation to attend the next meting (That evening) is extended, you are given a brief pamphlet that supposedly gives an overview of the Church's philosophy and agenda. However, the pamphlet, at four pages, is hardly a detailed doctrine. What it does say appears to be a breakdown of some basic self-help doctrines with encouragement of self-reliance combined with attendance of the meetings of the Church. What is absent from the pamphlet is any mention in any way to a deity or any political slant or discussion about the Church planning on growth. You do remember that it has had this one location, without ever trying to extend its size or location significantly.
TJ, Lau, scouting the theater appears to be a puzzling blend of clues (The yellow stains) an lack of them (The clear indications that the site has been cleaned and 'normal' functions resumed. Just at the point where you begin to despair of any new information coming up, you both see a homeless person who walks around you to explore the alley. It is unclear if he is looking for shelter in the shadows, a meal from the dumpsters, or something else that may or may not make sense to anyone else. He pauses, looks back at you both and follows your gaze to the symbol. He steps closer to you, and then looks around, nervous.
"I was here the night that happened. The one poor bastard with his insides turned out, the other standing there bleeding, torn up by the things coming outta the first guy. The one with his insides out, he stood there until something else showed up, something between them, and then he dipped his fingers in the blood." The man shivers, and looks away. "So much blood. Then he drew that on the wall, an something he did then made it glow all strange. I stayed hidden, back here." He gestures behind the dumpster. "I knew if he'd have seen me, I'd have been bleeding, too, held in that shape that didn't really seem to be there, until I lay down to not get up again." He pauses and considers his words, then nods as if his internal review is satisfied. He turns to go back to the spot behind the dumpster he indicated.
Evasiveness, of course. The number one tactic to avoiding questions one doesn't want to answer. Konrad wasn't about to push the point; this was a promising lead after all.
"I'll be there," He announces as he puts a notification in his phone. "Thanks for your help."
"Are you ready to go?" He asks Joseph, facing him but still tapping on his phone.
Taking the opportunity, he types up a message to TJ and Dr Lau. 'Church has a service/meeting tonight. They shouldn't mind you coming. Interested?'
Grateful to the homeless man for his information. As he is reviewing the photos from the day (Love digital cameras), he realizes his phone is ringing and checks the text.
Checking the message, he responds, "Not Now. New Lead. Call After Service. Concerns?"
Konrad heads out (Leaving Joe if need be) to reply, not wanting to be seen to be in communication with someone. 'No income from donations. Possibly not religious. History of investigators. And far too nice.'
Out of Character: So what would the time be?
