Man, I apologize for apparently opening a can of worms I did not even know existed. First, I agree that offering freedom to a prisoner is almost always the best offer. But maybe someone has/had a better idea. I certainly didn't. But between the time I went to bed last night and logged in this morning, Daishain had posted the officer letting us go and you had popped us in the castle and made your play. If the PCs are in the middle of a dicey situation, go with whatever strikes your fancy. But we have the luxury of time transporting this turtle-guy to the castle and preparing to interrogate him. Again, maybe straightforward is the way to go, but I would have checked with the group to see how they wished to play it.
Next, as a matter of fact, Poljen is not against lying. He just doesn't do it himself, not often anyway, because he has no talent for it. So he assumes that if someone else is offering the prisoner freedom, they are being honest. I am still crafting how he will react. Again, if he had known ahead what was going to be said he would back the play as best he could, whether it was a lie or the truth.
Lastly, on a personal level, look, Poljen is built for fighting. But I like to try to add more than just dice-rolling/killing to the game. For the entire run of this game, I have had Poljen offer some ideas, and by and large the group has opted to go with other plans. Poljen always has shrugged and gone along, because that's who he is, and it's just a game. But finally, one of his schemes has gone forward, and it even worked. No one is more relieved than I am! So I am feeling a bit possessive of the situation. I really want something to come of it. If this guy has literally nothing new for us, I will feel pretty stupid for wasting time and effort, both in- and out-of-game. So I would like to apologize if my tone came across as arrogant.
Paul, I like how you've already decided that Poljen is going to recommend acting on any intel quickly. You don't even know what the intel is yet. Is it more important than the green mask? Is it more important than the horn? We don't know, but you've already decided it is because it's part of your little Poljen power and brilliance fantasy here. Why is acting on the horn intel not urgent? Maybe someone saw Lawrance, Taz or Perry inquiring about it at Candlekeep and is trying to beat us to that little fishing village right now. We don't know how time sensitive any of our potential quests are, but yours is clearly more important because it's part of plan 'trap random street thug'.
My money says Daishain will throw you a bone here for improvising a plan and time spent and provide some intel to be a nice Dungeon Master. Note, however, that Daishain never called this guy 'the leader', not once in my searches of the last 15 or so pages in either thread. This is an assumption to propel the fantasy of this all being extremely brilliant in some way. It seems more likely to me that this is just a random street thug that shouldn't really know anything, if Daishain just wanted to play it straight and not be generous. It seems more likely to me that a group called the "Black Bile Gang" would toss a silver to a 15 year old boy to follow someone rather than have their 'leader' out waiting in the streets to stalk the Silver Blaze if they ever show up. The other group just had random city folk keeping an eye out, per Daishain.
You didn't exactly lay out all of the steps of how this plan would go, so most people have had to improvise from the start. Now you're yelling at someone for improvising to help with the plan. Are you serious man? People would be happy to help a PC here with a side quest of their own design but this is over the top as you've been like a dictator about it from the start and far too proud of it as well. Calm down. You've gotten to the point that you're micromanaging and criticizing what others say IN CHARACTER (Zarra, Perry) if it doesn't fit the plan you have in your head that you haven't shared with anyone on exactly what to say in each instance of this 'plan'. Do you really not see any of this from the perspective of.... Literally anyone else in this game?
Can we play Daishain's campaign now, again?
I guess the reason I fast forwarded to the interrogation scene is that I thought that's what "The plan" was. I'm not even sure what other option could possibly be relevant to our goal after being let go by the Flaming Fist guards other than just starting the interrogation process.
EDIT By the way, we still need to have that magic conference call with Mr. Creel too before we can start adventuring again.

Man, I have really screwed up when even my apologies are getting shredded by the likes of Cinder. I had no idea how this was coming across. I apologize to everyone, and will now totally drop the issue.
Daishain, just give us anything you wish from this guy, even if that means nothing.
Apparently tensions are running high for some reason. I would appreciate it if people would just relax a bit.
P.S. In the interest of moving things along a bit, we can abstract the meeting with Creel. You guys just wanted to set up the potential acquisition of the white mask from the Zhents right? Anything else?
As Anron mentioned (And Cinder too previously), I think we also wanted to ask if The Harpers would consider taking Varram off our hands so that we don't have to deal with that anymore. Maybe they could get even more info about the cult out of him that they could relay back to us later.
Oh boy, that's incredibly deep for play by post role-play.
It wasn't the Harpers, but I think our dragon friends, whom Velon knows on a personal note. Was it Chasworth?, and the other dude.
They have the power and expertise, to deal or lock up Varram and his mate effectively.
That's what I meant by professional dealing with that Varaam problem
As for the actual "Scenario" being played out? I think most of us knew, that we were on a tangent, so to speak for quite some time.
Fortunately, Dai has both the expertise, and patience to steer us where we should be headed,
Oh, if another player character, would wind up in trouble regardless if it is in the middle of Dais overall plan or not.
Tazskan, will use whatever means to get him/her out of danger.
I also don't mind another player, correcting my occasional slip up with role play mechanics, as I'm not perfect either. Wink, wink!

*Paul, I think we were posting at roughly the same time this morning, or at least I was still typing mine when you posted. I thus did not see your apology at the bottom of that post. Sorry about that aspect. My post probably would have been different, if even necessary at all. I may have only pointed out that at that point we hadn't accomplished anything at all, but shortly there after Daishain did provide a name that could be pursued and it may indeed still turn something interesting up and the group would likely be inclined to give Poljen some credit.*
-----
Velon would want to address the following three topics with Mr. Creel:
1) If Chasorth isn't sending someone to take Varram (?) then can Mr. Creel properly secure him. We want to be rid of a potentially dangerous caster in our midst, I'd think.
2) Could the Harpers pursue this lead on Bodun and follow it to see if anyone worth going after comes up? Ideally we'd get a name and a location, especially if it's a Wyrmspeaker or someone at that level of influence.
3) Most importantly, can they pursue the white mask for us? Velon would tell Mr. Creel everything they knew about the wizard they saw, which is probably mostly the location, the description of the man, the description of the man he was speaking to, the name of the leader they seemed to mention, and perhaps a description of the room. He would tell him the wizard seemed eager to be rid of the mask, and it seems like a great opportunity to help him with that. Velon would tell him he does NOT want anyone to use the Zhent network to relay the message that someone wants to buy the mask. Far too many enemies would have that info by the time it got to the wizard and someone would surely stop him. Velon is hoping someone can find something interesting out about the wizard (Along with his name!), such as "He loves fine paintings" or "He's been seeking out xyz magic item". They then contact the wizard and offer the sale of such item as they had heard he was a potentially eager buyer. Ideally they obtain such item so as to maintain good faith with the wizard instead of making him resentful that they tricked him. Cost should be no concern in obtaining this item if a mask is at stake. Velon will take on some of the debt to the Harpes if necessary. We/they then tell the wizard that this item is his for free, perhaps even offering more money, if he can get the mask safely away from the Zhents or whoever has it and into our hands. Really any plan on how to get the wizard to meet with the Harpers will suffice short of telling 100 bad guys "We want the mask", this is just a suggestion.
*Almost forgot. Velon would likely tell Mr Creel that the Blaze would owe the Harpers a favor if they make significant headway on these issues. Any favor that involves doing some good and doesn't interfere with their battle against the return of Tiamat would probably be ok, ideally after they stop her return since much may be time sensitive.
