Character Description
A tad weatherbeaten but still a lean and agile scoundrel for a man nearing his mid-thirties, with piercing blue eyes and shoulder-length light-brown hair tied in a loose pony tail, Jharen sports a constant stubble, short reddish sideburns and a silver ring in his left ear, along with a small scar on his right cheekbone (a "souvenir" from his early fencing days...).
His is the nonchalant demeanor of one who has lived through many dire situations and somehow always strived to turn them to his best advantage, all without ceasing to cultivate a certain good-natured philosophy about it all, along with a cynical wit.

He often wears a long pale brown overcoat of supple leather over a tightly padded protective vest and uses his thin and deadly-looking rapier with surprising speed and ferocity, while keeping a seemingly unending supply of throwing knives of all sizes and shapes hidden in various spots on his person.
He enjoys baubles and can often be seen wearing a fine collar of rare beads or a mysterious amulet of some sort, along with a few rings.

Also known for his taste in difficult women and easy-listening ballads, Tharen has a reputation as an avid dancer, a teller of jokes or tall tales and a connoisseur of the finer things in life, but his easy-going manner hides his true nature as a seasoned adventurer and spy.

Generally a good man to know when private dealings with disreputable characters or discreet contracts are required, "Amber Jack" - as he's known amongst his peers - is indeed not a poet, but a realist and definitely not a man to be underestimated: while he has his own code of honor and moral compass, and seems to have somehow retained a part of himself unsoiled by the mire of the underworld where he has made his living for the best part of two decades, he can be relentless when provoked and has been known to never leave a score unsettled.
Character History
The younger son of a seaman and a seamstress, Jharen "Amber Jack" Korvac rose from humble beginnings, selling sea-shells and chasing loose coins in the docks district as one more street urchin amongst many others, to quickly become one of the Sword Coast's most notorious thief and smuggler, carving a name for himself as a professional scoundrel with a strong ethics code and a rare nose for profit.
"Amber Jack" learned his trade first under Cloakmaster Erendarth in Waterdeep then increasingly as a solo operator in Baldur's Gate, following the infiltration and relocation of the Shade Council.

After trying his hand at various facets of his not-so-honorable profession, he now specializes in investigation and information-gathering (with the occasional breaking-and-entering, should the need arise) for the Harpers, who seem to know the valor (and monetary value) of a true professional.
Good operating solo scamps are, after all, somewhat hard to find these days... you could ask his competitors, if he hadn't run them all out of business already !
Character Magick / Spells / Powers
-Cloak Of Protection (+1 AC and saving throws)

- JHAREN'S RING OF MIND SHIELDING: this magic ring protects Jharen against mind-reading and other types of mental detection spells.

The ring already contains another soul a truculent-sounding and often irreverent old adventurer and mariner called Barlam Barkblood, or "Barley", as he likes to be called.

It is somewhat difficult to make out Barley's true story and how he got to be trapped inside the ring, as he tends to deliver a different version every time he's asked, to the point where Jharen often wondered if all the decades (or maybe centuries) spent inside the ring as a disembodied spirit might have affected the old rascal's mind...
Barley seems to be in a constant state of drunken stupor, sometimes making wisecracks and bawdy commentaries or at other times just loading into a litany of barroom insults, or reminiscing about his many female conquests and supposed exploits Jharen believes that this probably comes from the fact that the "Relentlessly Exploring Misfit" - as Barlam likes to call himself - was very probably under the influence of a huge quantity of spirits before becoming one himself.
In any case, the drunken boatman seems to be able to deliver a never-ending stream of inane commentaries and ideas, some of which can be entertaining at times, none of which are relevant to the situation at hand, and many of which are plainly offensive or simply idiotic.

Jharen is somewhat a little too cocksure of himself, and he will often take unnecessary risks, be it just to humiliate an enemy or to prove a point... or simply to work on his game. Nevertheless, he generally makes sure said-risks only involve him and not others.

- IDEALS -
He is a deeply ambicious man and is obsessed with the idea of setting his own rules and working on his own terms, as a way of finding a solid moral ground and create his own sphere of influence and wealth in an often murky and lawless environment. He will not stop until he gets to the standards of living and working he has set for himself.

- FLAW -
He will hold and bear a grudge until his enemies are in the ground. Literally. No mercy. Even if his life hangs in the balance, he may seem to forgive for the time being... but he will NEVER forget and will pursue his vengeance until it is fulfilled.
