Halloween out sold christmas? Wow that is really showing how times have changed. I hope that someday these cattle, we call people, wake up and see what they are doing to themselves.

Perhaps people are trying to take some of the commercialism out of Christmas? Halloween is a big seller in the stores. Christmas has always been one also. But more and more I hear people trying to get Christmas back to focus on the spiritual aspect. Halloween is more about the parties and more pagan roots.

Well we have to let the pagans and wiccans celebrate too. We can not hog all the holidays to ourselves. I hope that someday that Christmas is more of a spiritual holiday than it is now. I think it is highly unlikely to happen but I can still hold on to some hope. smile.gif

Less commercialism surrounding Christmas is not a bad thing. If more people truly focused on the real meaning of Christmas there would be a lot less sales transactions. The real Spirit of Christmas cannot be purchased.

Halloween

I know I like to celebrate halloween. I think it is neat to see all the little ghosts and goblins running around seeing what goodies they can get. I am hoping that I get more to stop by at my house this year. My record is 8 kids. This year I am going to hand out full sized candy bars. Maybe that will increase my numbers next year. smile.gif

QUOTE (malexander @ 11-Oct 04, 9:39 AM)
I too have realized that less and less kids are making it out to the streets year after year and I dont know if it has to do with the security issues in our country or whether Halloween is losing its appeal.

This has got to be a security issue, because I can't think of a single kid that doesn't want loads of free candy.

Last year, I might of had about 5 kids drop by in a neighborhood where every other house has multiple children.

I still celebrate Halloween by dressing up at work if we have a day to wear costumes and always, always stock up on candy should some kids come by on Halloween night. I also have a little 6-year-old brother to take door-to-door.

I love any and all opportunities to celebrate and do something different as a change from the day-to-day ordinary.

Halloween is a commercial enterprise. They entice you to BUY costumes and BUY canady to give the kids in the costumes. It has nothing to do with rituals or the real context of it. The idea of something 'evil' or 'dark' just appeals to people who want to be something for one night and then that's it. I suppose its just like how people love the idea of being a vampire, but could not live the life of one.

Felipe sees all the ads on cable for this and often asks about the custom here, but unfortunately it is only had in very small communities where neighbors (usually foreigners living here) plan it. Halloween has not caught on here much I guess because there is Carnival - the vulgar dress up time.
